18 degrees currently, wind chill around zero in north central NC. High tomorrow of 36 degrees. I enjoy winter, I don't mind cold temperatures within reason. Forecast for 3 inches of snow on Friday night... first measurable snow since Dec 2018. Had to head to the grocery store to stock up on tuna fish, chocolate cake, frozen pizza, and doritos

Warm in Connecticut by January standards. Most places in the 20s this morning.
Historically speaking, this has been a moderate winter in Connecticut so far. That being said we still have to get through January, February and early March. The Jan-Feb-Mar temp forecast is for above average temperatures with a 50% probability.

Three (3) degrees this morning here in Indiana, I'm 30 miles north of Indy.

Got the wood stove going rather nicely. :)

30 miles north of Indy, is it Kokomo? I was born in Lafayette, about 63 miles NW of Indy.

South Florida - only going up to 67° today. Currently 51° before sunrise. It's expected to hit the low 80s on Saturday, though.

After 40+ winters in CT, I'll take this.
But how many home basketball games can you attend at Gampel, XL Center, or the non-neutral court at the Mohegan Sun?

True, just one or two. And I went to the BET a couple of years ago.

I had season tix for the first 8 or 10 years I lived down here always thinking that somehow, some way I would get sucked back to Connecticut. I didn't want to lose my seats so my brother used my tickets. Anyway, I never moved back and have no plans to.

I still have cable, the Fox Sports app and now Peacock so I don't miss any games. The cable bill is high, but it's cheaper than airfare.

And the South Florida Alumni Network has watch parties in Ft. Lauderdale but I haven't been able to attend one yet. :(

Another chilly one in central Florida. Today's high will be aound 56. Temps tomorrow in the mid to upper 60's. Saturday highs in the mid 60's with rain.

And Saturday is another band gig/ dance. We'll start around 7:15 and end around 9:15. Scheduled to have another packed house.

Lemme add to the chorus bemoaning the wind. Here near the Continental Divide of Montgomery County (TM), we haven’t had relief from the wind in about a week. Steady 15-20 mph wirh high around freezing is really unpleasant.
And we still have to get through February. ;)

@HuskyNan I have actually been in Orlando on vacation (flew in last Friday and heading back to NY on Saturday) and I haven’t minded the colder weather too much. That said, it’s in the teens and snowy in central NY so in comparison the “chilly” weather here is much nicer!

Certainly it didn’t keep people away from Disney and Universal, which were still very busy!!

We're on a run of sunny skies here in Connecticut, and today we enjoyed a cooling breeze of about 20-25 MPH... thanks for checking, Nan.

I will admit it was a bit brisk last night walking from the XL Center to the cold car, but memories of that 81-27 win carried us through...

I spent 5 winters in Minneapolis where it once hit 56 below zero with no windchill.
Came on the news that boiling water would freeze instantaneously at that temp.
So I boil water, go on my porch and throw the boiling water in the air. I see mist but can't tell if it froze.
My wife , thinks I am nuts, but she says, "Did it freeze?" I say I couldn't tell, so I told her I need her to stand under it next time to see if it freezes?
^^%^%### was her answer.

Not Kokomo, I'm about 10 miles north of Noblesville - where our sharpshooter Ash played ball for a number of years. :)

"Cold Slap" more like it with the winds in Queens.
Diving tomorrow at the Coney Island aquarium (a volunteer cleaning gig) and the Dive Safety Officer thought we were going to dive the outdoors sea lions exhibit.

Wind chill will drop it to 29.

Hell-to-the-no!

I lived in the South, but had to get back to the northeast , to be with people I understood( in more ways than one).
That affects my decision too. I'll stay here in CT. Plus, the food is better. And, I'll admit, I really hate the heat. I keep my heat on at 65 no matter how cold it is outside. Plus, it's January! It's supposed to be cold here.

After posting a somewhat indifferent and sarcastic remark regarding the plight of our good friends in the Sunshine state, I have become seriously concerned about the safety of those of you who call Florida home. Evidently, the state of Florida has issued a warning to all residents that iguanas are freezing again and falling out of trees.

So to all of you folks down South, if you plan to walk outside under the palm trees over the next few days, please wear a hard hat, football helmet or some other protective head gear…. ;)

I get all the joking about Floridians and the cold but to put things in perspective, a lot of buildings here are just tossed up with single-paned windows and next to no insulation. Even though I live in a nicer neighborhood, I can still hear the wind whistling under the builder's grade windows in our kitchen and the front door. Florida isn't prepared for cold weather the way houses in the North are.

Yes. The minimum insulation required for FL homes is R-20 in south FL & R-25 in north FL. In NY the minimum is R-30 statewide. In addition, most FL homes have heat pumps instead of furnaces. Heat pumps are great for AC. But they struggle to warm a house when the weather gets really cold.

I lived in CT for over 30 years, and been in Greenfield,Northampton,Ma for another 25. We certainly would always see below zero temps in CT every winter, with plenty of snow. Lived on Bantam Lake, and the wind chill off that lake was something else. Same in Greenfield for a few years. But over the last few years here in Northampton the temps have rarely gotten into the single digits, with very little snow. Don't remember when we last
got below zero.The winters are
much easier, the climate has warmed, and at my age much
appreciated.

The low today was 41, it's supposed to get to 61. The low tomorrow is supposed to be 36 and the high 60. Right now one of the local weather reporter is saying that people need to bundle up because it's cold outside.
