2026 Recruiting: Colben Landrew Official Visit (10/3)

Watching the videos he reminds me of Rip a little bit. Not sure why. Maybe the shooting style? He shoots it a little weird with his legs and body a little sideways when he comes down. It works though! Watching him take guys off the dribble is pretty appealing.

yes!, what does age matter in effort, this is not at all saying I don’t want him, but cmon be honest, the effort was terrible. Of course maybe it was edited, but I played and got beat a lot, but never with that level of effort. Nothing to do with him now, just that video looked bad that’s all. Definitely want him here.
Playing when you are 10 is maybe not the best point of reference.

The Adidas Eurocamp is great film for him. He's on the Adidas Select team in black #3 off the bench.

Best player on the court. Pretty much unstoppable. Took and made everything the defense gave him. Versatile, dynamic, instinctive. Really exciting game to watch to understand what he brings to the table offensively. I like the more polished Jaylin Stewart comp. Him wearing 3 reminds me of Caron and his rangy length reminds me of Lamb. Easy to see why he’s become the priority.

Landrew is a big-bodied wing with developing guard skills. Measuring in at 6-foot-6 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, he has a powerful frame from head-to-toe rooted in his years spent on the football field. He brings that same physicality and toughness to the hardwood, but now that he’s focusing exclusively on basketball, his game is starting to blossom at a rapid rate.

He’s an ascending shooter with very soft natural touch. He made just under 34% of his attempts from three in 3SSB play, but knocked down 46% of his open catch-and-shoot threes, giving him extreme gravity as a floor-spacer. He still twists into a lower release, which may be why he’s not yet as consistent on the move and especially off the dribble (1-15 on dribble jumpers in 3SSB play). There’s clear confidence though and if he becomes a truly knockdown type shot-maker, it unlocks a lot of higher upside outcomes.

He's already a great blend player with a high floor because he’s smart, multi-positional, physical, can grab and go, and offer some secondary creation. He also has a very good left hand, is a terrific offensive rebounder (2.4 per game), starting to flash some off-ball cutting, and an efficient rim finisher (65%), despite not being a dynamic vertical athlete. Defensively, he has good hands (1.3 steals), great strength and balance in his lower body, but lacks ideal foot speed, so more switchable up the line-up than down.

His game is so interesting. Doesn’t necessarily have great athletic traits, but just knows how to play. Really good stuff in that Adidas showing.

Hard to come up with a comp, but my working one is a more fluid Tyrese Martin.
He was a high recruit in football but fully switch his attention to basketball. He reminds me so much of Stephon watching all the highlight tapes he’s reposted on Twitter. Almost identical body build/type, kind of identical shooting mechanics, 6’6 long arms. He just screams Hurley player with his hustle and just how hard he seems to play every play. Colben is who I really want in this class.

Castle is a weird comp. I don't see that at all

I don’t know what it is with some football guys making such a natural switch to basketball.

I agree he has Steph’s body type and measureables which can make him good for us on the wing. Not sure if he has all the strength and athleticism but maybe he will have the strength by the time he gets here. Think he’ll be a better overall scorer than Castle as well.

Think one of the better things about Colben is that he seems like a 3-4 year guy we’ll have around for awhile.

Didn't someone compare him to Jarron Cumberland in one of these threads? I think that's a really good comp.

Tyrese isn't a bad comp either, but I think Landrew will be able to bully defenders more from day 1. He seems a bit bigger

That’s a crazy find and I agree is a really good comp.

I didn't watch all of this but at the 30 second mark Cumberland makes a very athletic powerful drive to the rim. I think this is a good comp too for Landrew, and if he has this in his bag we're looking good.

I remember Cincinatti, the end of games, two minutes left, they would give the ball to Cumberland just about every possession, have him make a play, dude was hard to stop.
