2026 Recruiting: Colben Landrew Offered

He's a former football player, wide receiver, that started focusing on basketball. One of the 2 best players on the team that recently won the Adidas championship (Palmetto Road). The staff watched him that weekend, and 2 weeks before that he told 247 he was expecting a UConn offer.

He jumped from over 100 to ~60 in the last year. I assume he'll settle in the top 50 by the end in part just because of his team's success (and what he looked like next to Holt). It's hard to judge the difference between a guy ranked 40 and 60, though.

Averaged 15, 6, and 3 on the Adidas circuit, making 34% of his threes, 69% of his 2s, 86% of his FTs, very low turnover. Good size, very strong, good athlete.
 
Which of these wings would he step in front of: Stewart, Ross, Ross, Furphy next year?

Perhaps Stewart 2.0 is gone if he makes the leap, but (either way you say it: 2 Jacobs and a Jayden or 2 Ross and a Furphy)?

All that gets resolved in practice. There's an awful lot to like with this kid (imagine a 6-6 strong man that shoots 86% FT..........thats dedication. Strong football player.) To me, granted on paper, he appears to be a kid who can develop into a dominant player.

Don’t think that’s a concern at all in recruiting a wing. Stewart and Furphy have positional versatility where they will get some of their minutes at other positions and the Rosses currently shouldn’t scare any recruits off. If we see a breakout there, you deal with that in the future.
 
Physically he is almost exactly like Stewart when Stewart played Peach Jam at +20lbs more than he has been in college. They are slightly different in that Landrew uses a bit more creativity getting to the basket, where Stewart initiated offense for his team as a primary ball handler. When we recruited Stewart he played below the basket and was very effective. He changed his body and his game. I also like having a rugged guy on the roster and plenty of the 6'6 under the rim players have found a way to be effective. I don't know much more about him other than this thread, but he seems like an interesting target.

I guess let's see - Darius Adams had 2 PGs in front of him so bailed. I don't know how Landrew is going to feel about the depth at wing but I feel ya.

The difference is we play 2-3 wings at a time and only 1 (ish) PGs. Not to mention the difference in quality of player at PG for Adams versus on the wing for Landrew

Definitely, not saying we're out on him or anything. But if he scheduled 7 visits and we're not one of them it seems safe to say we're behind those schools currently

Well to be fair in 2023-23 and 2023-24 we had a whole lotta 3 guard sets, not 3 wing sets.

Now this year, I can see the same for Mullins as a guard or Furphy as a guard, but they are also capable 3s so who knows how Landrew is perceiving this roster or how Adams perceived getting Silas and Malachi but to each their own.

He put down the helmet and shoulder pads to focus strictly on basketball, and his game has taken a huge step.
