Coaching hires

Burke contract details. Appears the kitties will save around 200 Grand over the fashionista in the first year assuming that SMU paid the fashionistas buy out.

It appears that coach Molly Miller will receive a similar type contract $750,000 per year with escalators and unspecified bonus.

On the fiscal front the kitties trim their women head coach cost by around 200,000.

ASU on the other hand increases this line item by 750,000 due to the two years remaining on the nice coach from Delaware's salary.

Kris Lamb Caruso of UConn fame hired at CCSU.

I wish her well, but she has a bad track record. 32-79 at Marist and 34-60 at Longwood, where she was fired over a "personnel matter."

A sign that Brenda Freese may be retiring in a couple of years and is setting up her successor? Or maybe this is just an opportunity for Carley to accelerate her career while making equal or better pay at a flagship university in the women's game?

She's only 55. Seems early to retire. I think it's more a career move for Kuhns. She's had 4 straight sub-500 seasons. She probably didnt have much more time at Samford.

Probably the latter. Brenda's not going anywhere anytime soon.

I am excited about Coach Molly Miller and her hiring at ASU! Having gone to a few of her coaching clinics over the years, she is the "IT!" Her attention to detail. Her ability to connect with the young players and create a style of play that the players like at Grand Canyon University. I can only imagine what she is going to do at ASU. If she can get the ASU players to buy in, ASU is going to be exciting to watch!

She's added some experience to her staff with Coach Norman leaving Louisville and heading back to her alma mater.

How many "associate head coach"es can a team have? I thought it was usually one.

Get with today's program - "however many you want". Everything has changed.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Honest answer - yes, tradition was 1. There were 3 power schools with 2 this past year I think (my spreadsheet is a bit corrupted). I am pretty sure I saw one school - at some point - had all their assistants listed as Associate Head Coaches.

.-.
Sounds like associate head coach has become about as meaningful of a title as executive producer in the movie biz.

Interview with new Grand Canyon coach Winston Gandy. (3 minutes)

During the pregame show for the baseball game with ASU. I remember the day when the real estate mogul and part-time president of ASU said he would never recognize Grand Canyon or participate in intercollegiate sports with the 'for profit' college. And ASU is not a profit maker?

I wish Coach Gandy well.

FINALLY

NAU announced their coaching staff as coach Dinkins reached back to her former employer tire coach Camacho formerly of GCU, coach Dajae Black and interestingly GCU grad and Czech Kristyna Jeskeova, perhaps signaling outreach to European players?

Also announced were coach Nick Milan Cal State Fullerton.

They all have significant recruiting experience which is good because they're only two players listed them on the NAU roster.

Absent some major transfers or European signings the upcoming year is certainly going to be a change from the previous years under coach Payne and will be hopefully play the foundation for a successful rebuild.

Sam Brunelle Joins Navy WBB as an Assistant Coach

The Notre Dame undergrad alum and UVA graduate degree holder has garnered her first coaching position.
Navy Coach Tim Taylor has been around the East Coast for years in a number of capacities and has probably kept track of Sam since she was in high school and AAU through her days with ND and UVA.

Said Taylor in the full press release below: "In analyzing the needs of our program, it was paramount for us to find positive professionals with high-level basketball experiences either playing or coaching who have a passion for teaching and developing players as well as committed to creating staff and program synergy. We had a tremendous applicant pool, but it was obvious throughout the interview process that Sam was the exact person we needed to help elevate our players and program. She connected extremely well with our players, administrative staff, officer reps and our coaches.

Wow, it doesn't seem that long ago that many of us were talking about where Ms. Brunelle was headed to college. When she announced, Azzi Fudd showed up to offer support...and Paige Bueckers would've been there if not snowed in back in Minnesota.
Whew, time flies. Good luck to fellow Domer Sam, Coach Taylor and Navy.

(tip of the hat to mwayne for first posting this article on The Bench)

As a fan of ASU women's basketball I can't help myself. While the discussion of Molly Miller's hiring at ASU has been expensive this SI article is an outstanding example of accurate reporting and analysis regarding a massive sea change for the Sun Devils.

Like her replacement at Grand Canyon Winston Gandy coach Miller has really moved with outstanding pace, thought, and clearly has a plan in mind which she's implementing.

I CAN'T wait for the season to begin. And I can't recommend the SI article enough. I think it does a great job of indicating how those of us who are long term dedicated fans of the ASU women's basketball program feel a sense of enthusiasm and renewal.

Go Devils! Forks Up!

While at Grand Canyon coach Molly Miller beat the kitties twice. She actually thumped them pretty good so this should be a great opportunity for the rivalry to go to new heights at least from the ASU point of view

.-.
This surprised me ...any insight? UCLA has big recruiting shoes to fill .....

Making the move to Rutgers? Interesting, considering how some think the head coach there leaves a lot to be desired.

She got one of those "I'm almost a head coach" titles, and her husband is also on staff. I have no idea what that means from a monetary perspective, but it may have been a career development move for at least one member of the family, if not both.
