Coach Candle Introductory Press Conference 12/8/25 @1230. Streamed live on UConn+

Solid numbere.

You think so? My reaction was I thought half a million average was low but I wasn't sure if that was just the "official" state salary not including the usual booster fed extras that Coaches get.

Didn't we pay RE2.0 and Mora more than that?

Candle's contract seems commensurate with what was previously done. Here is the ex-coach's contract after the December 2024 extension:
Coaching Candidate: Jim Mora, UConn

Candle is getting paid over $2.5 million a year. RE2.0 and Mora started at $1 million a year.

I hope Sammis stays.

But I also respect Candle’s authority to make the call.

At end of the day the Coach is “on the hook” for whatever happens with the team, so by all means, make the changes you want.

But when you look at our offense, if I was Candle, I’d be like “okay your staying.”

That’s just me.
I also want Sammis to stay, but Candle was the playcaller at Toledo and that is a responsibility he apparently likes to have so I think a reunion may not make sense for either side at this time.

given how big of a deal making the CFP is as a G6 or indy, I find the $150K figure to be a little laughable... i feel like making the playoff alone would be worthy of a hefty payday, closer to that 1M mark if not 1M even.... not exactly an incentive to get to the playoff.

it's so unlikely to happen, why not incentivize it.

In a world where UConn makes the CFP, this contract is ripped up immediately and Candle would more than receive his due with the new terms. As an independent UConn would receive $4 million that it does not have to share with a conference for just making the CFP.

makes sense.
just wondering (not asking you personally) ... so i guess they have the terms in there more for "show"... the actual payday would come with the new contract at seasons' end, once the 150K pocket change is paid out lol

A must watch. Sounds like Coach Candle might need to join the TPC River Highlands

This guy Jordan Strack has nothing but praise for Jason Candle. What you see is what you get. HCJC seems exactly like what this program needs. No nonsense, all business, dedicated, loyal, grounded. He can recruit and use the portal and players stay loyal to him which is important. With 3 young kids, maybe he feels Connecticut is the place to raise his family. So many great public and private schools in this area. And if UConn does get a P4 invite, his is in exactly the right place and the right time as the head coach.

Nice insights from this podcast. I would expect to see Jason in the ProAm of the Traveler’s Championship next June.

He is the type of coach that expects to make the playoffs even as a G6. Great hire.

FYI, this year is the last time participating teams get money to the CFP. Starting next year, all schools get a payout. We get a whole $360,000.

not to be a stickler but I don't understand "generally been considered a step down." That statement seems to have no basis at all.
considered by whom? bet nick freaking saban begs to differ

-> Jason is an incredible culture guy, O’Brien said. “You have seen that because there are so many Toledo players that could have left during this NIL period and made a lot of money, but they stuck with Jason and that staff simply because of how they are treated, how they are coached and how they are developed. “The culture in Jason’s locker room is second to none.” <-

-> “That is why his recruiting is off the charts,” O’Brien said. “If he doesn’t feel like a player may not play his first or second year, he is going to say that in the living room on the recruiting trip. So, from Day 1, he establishes that culture with that player. They just buy into it, and they should. “He is relentless on the recruiting trail, and that is reflected in the rankings.” <-

NFW, the home game is at The Rent.
CT blew the potentially program-establishing 7 year Notre Dame deal because of a, with all due respect, false sense of "pride". Penn State ain't coming to East Hartford to play a G5. Maybe for a P4 if it ever happens.

The ND deal was a complete insult. 10 games total. 5 in South Bend. 5 split between Gillette and Met Life. 0 at Rentschler. ND didn't agree to single away game out 10! And this was when the Huskies were in the Big East, same as Miami. Hathaway agreed to it. The fans threw up when they heard the terms. We would have taken a 3 for 1. But no. ND wanted a 10 - 0.

Then we played a single game at Notre Dame and kicked their ass.
