Kudos to the big haired little Georgia PG for pulling her teammate as far away from the scrum as possible. Who wants to bet that kid transfers away from coach Abe by next season?

For as much as the players from Georgia were in the wrong, Walters should have left it alone once the ref made the call. She also has challenges with staying composed. Not sure if she was trying to instigate something, but why risk it in the first place?

Double technical? What did the player in white do that merited a T? Nothing wrong with playing tough basketball, but somehow Coach Abe teams manage to cross the line from tough to dirty.

The technical was assessed on #32 (Walters) for getting the face of the player after the foul was called. Maybe it was the heat of the moment, but it wasn't necessary.

Her hands were at her side she didn’t seem to be saying anything or be particularly animated. That’s a no call but for the fact of the later shoves. Unfair to punish someone for someone else’s actions.

And as a reminder about the fine Coach Abe, on Sunday, after her team blew a 4th Quarter lead and lost, she and some of her team left the court without shaking hands against Seton Hall. Plus for those of us who were at the UConn-UCF game at Gampel in the 2nd round we saw this same act of her not shaking hands with an opponent. So much for leadership and sportsmanship....What I find particularly galling is that it is HER TEAM that initiates the rough and tumble defense so if anyone is disinclined to not shake hands, it should be the opponent. To me, the conferences need to crack down on this poor leadership and sportsmanship issue and the NCAA should make a statement about it. Play hard yes, but respect yourself and your opponent after the game ends. I am saddened by this more than I am angry...

I believe that Chapman from Georgia was subsequently suspended from the SH game after getting thrown out of the VCU game. Coach Abe had no intention of suspending Chapman, but I believe she was required to by UGA, the SEC or the tournament organizers, I can’t recall which.

Disagree. She didn't to walk towards the player based on where she was when the foul was called. The foul had been called, VCU got the ball back. Move on.

It reminds me of personal fouls in football where you see the person who reacts get the penalty not the person who instigated it. In this case, both got called for it which I thought was fair.

My take: playing tough is not necessary playing dirty. UGA has a coach that knows the value of being physical. Being physical has always carried a edge that players must learn to control. I really like the UGA coach and believe she will make UGA a threat.

IMO, Coach Abe crosses the line. One example is a technique that is obviously taught by Abe, since all her players at UCF employed it. When closing out on a shooter, defenders typically get their hand up as high as possible to contest the shot.

At UCF, Abe had defenders close out on shooters by extending their hands outward, towards a shooter’s face. There was one game in particular when I was concerned that KLS was going to lose an eye as UCF defenders repeatedly hit her in the face on her jump shot.

As I recall, Lou didn’t hit a single basket from the field, but went 12/12 from the FT line. I haven’t seen enough of UGA to know if Abe has brought this dangerous defensive technique along with her from UGA, but I would not be surprised.

Majority of the players were ejected for coming off the bench onto the court, which is part of the rules. The same thing happened between ND and Northwestern a few weeks ago. A fight was prevented by the refs.
Understood. But does this say "physical but not dirty" to you?

BTW, I tuned into the MSU game last night and even my wife commented-"What happened to all the fans that used to attend games at the Hump?" The attendance was unbelievably pathetic. Now contrast to the 12,000+ fans in Columbia for SC and you can see the value of a coach building a program....Didn't me to kick dirt on you while you were already down....:(

It's says neither. There wasn't anything physical/dirty in the players walking onto the court. It was poor judgement on their part because it was a violation of the rules.

I think that's spin for a lack of discipline and an overly aggressive team culture. But that's obviously just an opinion.

I posted about the attendance on the thread “the Hump”. My take is unless you play competitive games the fans are not going to show up. Our OOC schedule is pathetic, we have way too many cupcake games and if our Coach does not schedule better then the fan base will go away. Not just MSST scheduling cupcakes and IMO that technique is bad for WBB.

Spin? Poor judgement goes hand in hand with lack of discipline in my opinion.

If you think I'm defending Georgia in any of my posts, then you're mistaken. The players coming onto the court was inexcusable. Walters from VCU getting into the face of the Georgia player was inexcusable as well. That's also poor judgement/lack of discipline in my opinion.

From what I've seen of Walters from her high school days , this behaviour isn't new for her. So are we going to say VCU has an overly aggressive team culture when she does this?

Team culture is a different matter in its entirety. Players can be part of teams that have a good culture and still lack discipline in how they play/react to certain situations.
