When weed becomes your life's mission - I think that's sad. I am not trying to convince anyone else or convert you to my viewpoint (I know that's a hopeless cause).
What's your life's mission?

Chief there is a 'huge' financial component to legalization. Especially in the beginning stages. I'm sure Cliff doesn't need legalization to find good weed.

Just saying: its worth ($$) fighting for

The finances cut both ways in terms of society. Cliff had a medical situation and hopefully unrelated.

Regardless of how you feel about the issue I think it's sad when it becomes your main thing. Just one dude's opinion.
His main thing is basketball, he had an outstanding career and made millions of dollars. Now he feels strongly about something he thinks has helped him his whole life. I've never smoked weed so I don't care about it either way but fiscally legalization in the state of Connecticut is a no-brainer.

We are a state , recently downgraded by two major rating agencies, which won't have a budget by the constitutional 6/30. Yet, all that matters to the casual fans is legalizing pot.
To me it's like arguing for or against the casino in East Windsor. It doesn't matter much - we have a $5 billion projected deficit over 2 years and as it is Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun bring in combined $200 million annually to the state - so after the cannibalizing effect - you are talking maybe $10-20 million a year increment for East Windsor - yet this and pot is what all the discussion is about / not real solutions given our enormous problem.

The state is old and broke. Legalizing would bring the state money, bring young entrepreneurs etc. This isn't hard to understand.

Idk, the competition for young potheads is getting pretty intense.

I will have to give it some thought, not sure I have one.
Do you find it a bit odd that you think it's a shame that another person would "make it his life's mission" to get weed legalized while you don't appear to have one.

I mean, that's not a critique of you. I gave up on finding a meaning to my life a long time ago. I'm not on any mission. But, given that, I'd feel odd about criticizing somebody else for having a mission - ANY mission.

Just a thought - not an attack.

Don't you mean "casual residents"?

It's always shocked me that such a decidedly liberal state is so leery of legalization.

I think if some of you really experienced the inner city you might have different ideas on drugs. I am for lighter sentences for drugs but I have seen the damage drugs can do up close. True, good arguments can be made pro/con legalization but either way some dudes are taking it too far and messing up their lives.

Drugs are everywhere and what makes you assume people on the board haven't experienced the inner city? What is the horrible damage you have seen from marijuana? In my experience alcohol has damaged lives way more than weed has.

True, alcohol can do harm too. Not trying to do a sermon and I am no angel but I don't advocate these things like they solve everyone's problems.

Not really.
It always - ALWAYS - comes down to this:

PRO - let people do what they want with their lives, even if it means they end up with a very bad result, as long as they're not hurting anybody else
and
CON - We need to protect people from themselves because it is our moral duty to make them do right AND/OR our moral duty to protect them from themselves AND/OR protect our version of ideal society.

It's always that simple.

I just can't be cheerleading on the "Con" as some posters appear to be! I wonder how many of them have been personally exposed to a heavy duty weed user ? My educated guess is most our casual, suburban, recreational weekend users.

I know that some believe marajuana is a "gateway" drug but to me alcohol is just as much so and is at least if not more damaging. I know it's more powerful than what was had in the old days so if it can be ingested what if a child or infant eats a brownie off a coffee table? A 25 year old I know ate a bit too much of a candy bar and did not wake up for 16 hours. It's something they wouldn't do with booze because of the harsh taste to them. There are issues.
