This is not one the stellar UNC teams. It may be one of their weakest in 15 years or more.

The game is in Chapel Hill. Clemson is 4-10.

Delaware seems to have a new player. The leading scorer was "E. Donne." Related to John Donne?

Clemson wins 52-47. 47 pts by the GREAT UNC Tarheels. :)

As bad as this year's Carolina team is, this is a terrible loss. Really disappointing particularly since Carolina is coming to Storrs on Monday night.

I remember in 2010, UNC came to Gampel as a top five or so-ranked team, and UConn just buried them. The first half of basketball was just brutally beautiful basketball. UNC's season went south permanently south after that.

They are just not in a condition mentally to head to Connectciut. It's not going to be a pretty game on Monday.

Not sure if it was 2010 or 2011, but the UNC loss to UConn sent them into about a 6-game tailspin from which they barely emerged.

Would an 85-40 prediction be far off the mark for Monday?

.-.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was that brutal a final score. If you can limit Shegog, they don't have much else other than some long-range shooters.

But how do you really feel? :-)

Is the Duke-UNC rivalry as fierce in women's hoops as it is in men's hoops? The rivalries from our men's team don't seem to carry over here, at least not to the same degree.

I'll let TDF give the authoritative answer on this, but my sense is that a) maybe not quite as intense but still a big rivalry game, and b) geography and dominance play a big role with respect to UConn. None of our rivals are next door neighbors, and none of our MBB rivals have very good WBB teams. Durham and Chapel Hill are close by, people grow up in NC rooting for one or the other in general, and both WBB programs have had success.

Ask the men's board what they think of Duke.

Hate to say it, but no one likes Duke MBB. They're the Yankees of the sport. I don't think of them as a rival of UConn's, however.

I love Duke MBB. One of my favorites. Geno and Coach K are quite similar.

Hyperbole on my part obviously. :) But my point was that Duke is disliked by fans of programs far and wide, including programs who aren't really their rivals. The Yankees, Cowboys, Lakers, Manchester United, Notre Dame football, Duke basketball- they are widely popular and widely hated brands.

I may get banned or beat up for say ing this, but I hate both Duke and UConn's mens basketball teams after both beat Butler in the finals the last two years. That slipper would have looked real nice on Cinderella! ;)

Nope, neither banned nor beat up. I pointedly did not hit the "like" button, but I completely understand (other than the nit that I reserve the word "hate" for more serious things than basketball.)

Ha-ha. More serious things than basketball, you crack me up. :D

Nothing in basketball can approach the fierceness of the UNC-Duke Men's rivalry... with the exception of probably UK and Louisville. Though not as fierce... it still IS fierce among the wcbb fans. Their is a great deal of dislike, disdain, disgust and vitriol .. between the fanbases. One of those deals where a UNC loss almost feels as good as a Duke win.. and vice versa. For the most part... fans of wcbb's are of a gentler more peaceful lot as opposed to the men's teams. Just like on the Vols and UCONN message boards... you will always find threads.. insults.. barbs.. and potshots directed towards UNC.. or towards Duke. This years game in Durham will be very interesting. As you know our Lead recruiter left us to go to UNC in the middle of the summer. Should make for an interesting handshake line. As much as I like to see UNC lose.... and for their program to suffer... I do realize that a strong UNC team, makes for a strong ACC... and makes for a great ACC tournament. In 2010... UNC had a really down year..... and was out of the tournament by supper time on Thursday. While some Tarheel fans stayed for the rest of the tournament.... most did not. The 2011 tourney was completely different... and the championship game between Duke and UNC was an enviroment unmatched in women's basketball. Imagine two heated rivals.... meeting on a neutral court in Greensboro.... less then an hour from both schools... 50% of the fans wearing the putrid blue.... 40% wearing the royal blue...meeting less then 24 hours after the two men's programs battled for the regular season title. Wow... gets me pumped just thinking of that grand Sunday afternoon. :)

Great points. The Duke-UNC thing is 365 days a year.... much like Auburn-Bama in Football.... and perhaps Texas-TAMU as well. Ive been in a gas station in the middle of the summer... and a UNC fan sees my hat... and starts the trash talking about the upcoming basketball season. Same thing happens in the gym.... stores..... restaurants. Ive been hounded by UNC waitresses seeing my hat.... and the owner of the restaurant is a Duke fan.. and has given me free desserts. If i meet a cute female.... im almost hesitant to as her if she is a UNC fan.... cause that would cause some serious issues. :p If I see another person with a Duke hat or Duke shirt on... there is kind of an unwritten bond. We are heavily outnumbered here in NC... Probably a 4:1 ratio of UNC fans to Duke fans. So the fans of the Dark Blue have to stick together. :D

In the BEast we had West Virginia-Pitt, aka The Backyard Brawl. I don't think any of their teams like one another. But, as you know, Pitt is going to the ACC and WVU to the B12 - I bet the series continues though.

Speaking of rivalries, should the Boston College AD ever find his cojones (if he has any), he'll put UConn back on all of his teams' schedules. Maybe then they'd get more people than the players' moms and a couple of liquored up frats to go to games.
