Clark Commits To Iowa

ND and Muffit (and Niele Ivey, for the most part) had wracked up a good class with guard/wing Alli Campbell, post Nat Marshall, wing Maddy Westbeld and guard Alasia Hayes.

But a focal point was Clark. MM put a lot of work into this one so it's gotta sting.

There was talk on McGraw's Bench a few weeks back that there was a fourth commit (who was not Westbeld) and many interpreted that the commit was Clark. But there was subsequent radio silence from CC after she visited ND (with Westbeld, Campbell and Marshall). Interestingly, there was - and is -- also no news from Deja Kelly (who took a tour of ND) and Leilani Kapinus (whom the Irish visited in Wisconsin). Kelly quickly posted congrats to Clark on her twitter site.

So, obviously, Clark was not that commit (if there ever was one). Will MM snag one more for the Class of 2020? Or will the focus for another point guard (beside Hayes) shift to the Class of 2021, with NJ's Olivia Miles and/or Ari Wiggins from Indy?

Well, in any case, congrats to Ms. Clark for making a decision. Gosh knows I've watched a whole bunch of "tape" and live broadcasts of your games, both international and local high school! (that merits both a  and a Head bang )
Best of luck.

I'm not shocked at all. Muffet implied that she was looking to have just four recruits coming in and this was before the Westbeld committed to ND. Clark from her from the few interviews she did, was about going to a school where she could get guaranteed playing time. ND's other 2020 target point guard target Deja Kelly, seems to be more enamored with Duke and Texas A&M than ND.

Initially, MM did say she was looking at 4 commits for the Class of 2020, but that changed a bit after Nixon and Patterson transferred. She started adding "maybe 5" to the description. Westbeld was a very good get for the Irish. Unless there's a bit of a surprise Plan B, wouldnt' be suprised if PG is shelved until 2021.

That's gotta sting for ND fans. Kudos to you for coming over here and posting that...

What do you think Muffet's chances are with Miles? According to HG, Campbell and Hayes are both PG's, but you indicated Campbell is more a 2/3? Not sure how Wiggins is an upgrade over Campbell, and Hayes. Sniezak fills in this year but after that, who's the starting PG? Peoples?

There is also No. 17 prospect Deja Kelly, who is believed to have narrowed down her search to two schools -- North Carolina and Texas A&M -- after she decommitted from Texas.

We certainly do need a point guard to join Hayes in 2021. Muffet has spent a bunch of time watching the Philly Beles over the years with her successful recruitments of Mik Vaughn, Danielle Cosgrove and Alli Campbell and "close but no cigar" pursuit of Kylee Watson. So, she's had a chance to see Oliva Miles perform on many occasions, since Miles is the Belles' PG.

When Miles was heading to an AAU event in Indianapolis, she took a detour up to South Bend for an unofficial visit and former teammate Cosgrove showed her around. I'd like to think ND has a solid chance with her.
On top of that, ND has offered Sonia Citron, Miles' backcourt buddy from the U.S.A. National team that went south to Chile.

Good point on Wiggins: she is pretty much the same size as Hayes and/or Deja Kelly.

Word around South Bend is that MM is looking at Campbell as an off guard/even a wing if she keeps growing. However, I've got to think the "wing" talk has died down now that Maddy Westbeld is aboard. That's a player who has come on the last year. Good thing: we Domers love our Westbelds! :D

Be interesting to watch the transfer portal after she has two mediocre at best seasons at Iowa. Fortunately for her the conference is weak. But making the NCAA's as an at large (because Iowa ain't beating Maryland in any of the next four years for the conference championship) will be tough with so many good mid majors. Good luck, she'll need it.
