OT: Chris Mullin out as Head Coach of St. Johns

.-.
I doubt they have a replacement ready. I don't think the administration wanted to do this, based on the signals they had been sending up until today. Somebody convinced them, correctly, that Mullin couldn't coach. What he did this year with that talent was a travesty worse than anything Ollie did.

They returned almost their whole rotation, added Heron, and fell 15 spots in KenPom. The Heron effect notwithstanding, that's so atrocious.

I don't see Bobby leaving P5 for non-P5, especially one with a similar budget, unless he's just not happy there for some reason.

Shocked
Shocked I tell you
Who could’ve ever foreseen that this wasn’t destined to work out?
Who’s that transfer they just landed?
Tabor, but Dan Hurley probably isn't going to want to be taking BH's kids.

Does St. John's have a plan, my guess is no. The only reason I'm totally not dismissing Hurley ending up there is the Hurley's love northeast/tri-state hoops.

.-.
Maybe this time they will actually hire a real basketball coach.

Sidebar story: What a flipping wasteland the Pac-12 is becoming for hoops. 'Zona is looking at a long dry spell once the FBI kicks in. AZ State loses Hurley. UCLA is a mess. Washington is probably in the best shape, but they're kinda where they're always at. Oregon and Utah are fine I guess.

But what a dump.

You forgot to mention it's Tucson and the co-eds.
Or Tempe, but most serious coaches aren't chasing after coeds. Even if Bobby Hurley's a dislikeable Pukie, he's never appeared to be a coach prioritizing coeds over seriously coaching. Now, some potential ASU recruits might allocate a bit of time to the former.

.-.
I personally think this P5 narrative vs. the Big East or American is a little over exaggerated unless you’re talking about the top P5 programs. St. John’s has more basketball history than Arizona State. Moreover, the Northeast is Bobby Hurley’s home so why would this move being so shocking? Whether St. johns will be able to fund the buy out is another question altogether.

I really hope it's not Bob. Would hate to have two Hurley's recruiting New York and New England.
Look, man. The ONLY thing to fear is fear itself.

We got the better Hurley.

Yeah that’s annoying if they don’t pursue because their brother is already recruiting a kid.

Danny Hurley: "Well, LaQuinlon. It was great talking with you and I will see you at the Keds Strawberry Pulp Jam!!"

LaQuinlon Effervescence: "Thanks a lot coach. Yup."

[ three minutes later, phone rings]

LaQuinlon Effervescence: "Hello?"

Bobby Hurley: "Hello LaQuinlon!!" It's Coach Hurley...I just met you at the King game."

LaQuinlon Effervescence: "Didn't you just call me 10 minutes ago?!?"

I think Tabor is still in high school. The transfer that just committed is Ian Steere, a 6'9", 260 pound power forward that played one game at NC St. and then decided to sit out the rest of the year. Rated #140 last year.

I was thinking Tabor will likely decommit given the coaching change.
