Choosing UConn.

OK you want honesty, for at least 10 years opposing recruiters have been telling recruits that Geno is too old and ready to retire. I guess that players like Paige, Azzi, Ash, KK and Sarah looked at what Geno and crew would mean for their game, said "hog wash" or whatever young kids say today. What Gramps can teach them, how UCONN elevates their status and pumps out Nattys. For our players and others who want UCONN but don't get that call, Husky Nation, with Gramps is still better than all the rest.
More than one thing could be true here. First, Geno has stated, many times, that the Huskies success is due to the program. i.e, coaches, asst coaches, trainers, medical, facilities, scout team, etc. Second, I have to believe that there already is a plan for succession in place and when appropriate, it will be brought forward in concert with his planned retirement. With the expectation that CD (only 5 years younger) will also retire the only drama remaining would be which of the UConn greats would take their place, keeping to the traditions of the school and the lineage of success.

I'm sure some competing coaches are telling players from the 2026 recruiting class and later that Geno is going to retire soon........I have a feeling he's not going anywhere if he gets the Big "O"......
What ( or who ) is the Big O? Oscar Robertson is retired, no?

chill out did u actually read what i wrote!
i simply said that for SOME players age
MIGHT be a factor
somehow u fell compelled to go on a rant about past recruits etc

Zonepress, your statement implies that Geno being 71 years old has negative connotations to some HS seniors. Maybe negative considerations for some, but not for anyone that matters.

The ones that matter are being advised by HS coaches, AAU coaches, maybe other players (past and present), and probably to some degree knowledgeable family members of the totality of going to UConn. It's the program, the culture, the environment, the history, the development of players, etc., - not just Geno and CD. Everything about the program is elite.

The Big O - and any other quality international or HS player - should look at the technology behind the program. Performance based analytics tracking player development from freshman year through senior year with decades of data to point to. What other WBB program is able to do that? Maybe Stanford or a couple of the Ivies?

The incredible nature of the elite UConn WBB program is largely due to Geno's and CD's longevity. With the passing of every birthday, their experience and wisdom grows. To the degree that Geno is able to pass his coaching wisdom on to assistants and former players - and all indications are that he is doing so - this program is set up to be elite for decades.

Those in Big O's orbit should come to Storrs, sit down with the staff and check it out.
you had to write all this from my post that said for some players age might be a factor WOW!!

Yep I read what you wrote, and put out there what for the some players age is irrelevant until it's put in their ear. So I picked a segment of what you wrote and answered that part. You want a rant, and consider what I wrote a rant, bless you, not willing to get into it with you.

I have posted several times that Olivia is a perfect fit for Uconn. With Geno and Chris to coach her, she'll be an AA player and would come aboard when JANA is a senior and could learn from her also. I am 100% against the saying Uconn gets all the best players. In reality Uconn DEVELOPS THE BEST PLAYERS!! Everyone talks about Uconn having a BIG, when Qlivia come on board we will have 3 BIGS. With that i have a thought, GENO once said he wanted to win a NC. Then he added you want to win another and added then you want to win a third. With Olivia and the future roster Geno might sign another 5 year contract and want more. He's healthy enough... GO HUSKIES!!!!!

So NC's are a lot like potato chips?

big o showtime GIF

ditto

Cripes. I thought someone was writingabout Oscar Robertson.,,,,who was the Big O.

I check the board daily for recruiting news and am hopeful that Kayleigh Heckel chooses UConn, BUT my real interest is where Olivia will be electing to go to school. Both players would be great additions to the program but after watching "O" in Springfield its a no brainer not to think that she will change the teams entire landscape. Her presence in the front court along with the already projected starters would be scary.

Hopefully, Nika has already persuaded her, Croatian to Croatian.

For any idiot who would try to use Geno's age against him I have only one reply - Coach of the 2025 National ChA

One point that recruits likely consider that is not always mentioned is UConn's history of making final 4's. Many teams come and go as evidenced by Notre Dame this past year. A great team for much of 2024-25 but somewhat thin and faded at year end. Struggling to get Top 10 plays for next few fews. UConn is stacked the upcoming 3 years and no matter who the coach is, will likely be there at the end of the season.

While I fully expect Geno to be here for many more years, its the NCAA's that often provide players with the fulfillment and publicity they dream of. NIL money at UConn will be competitive but 99% of all athletes compete to win. Incredible evidence that UConn women's basketball will meet this need.

Geno will be here at least through Sarah's career. Will he stay through Blanca's? Maybe, if she turns into the next GOAT. I suspect he'll stay for as long as he has the next potential GOAT. Olivia? The only way rival coaches will be able to get him to retire is to out-recruit him.
