Stewey misses another, Lyndsey is out, Diggins is in now, and Siemone scores

Score is 36 - 16 with 6 to go in the second q

China is still having problems taking care of the ball

Angel commits a foul..think it's non-shooting. Lavender in, Nneka out.

Just like yesterday, Lavender scores right away on an assist by Stewart

Stewey grabs a rebound on the other end, Seimone makes a shot on a putback from her own miss

.-.
Seimone out, Angel out, Sims and McBride in

Diggins turns the ball over on a bad pass. Gotta stop rushing your game, girl

Diggins, another turnover and China scores

Lavender scores, and grabs a defensive rebound on the other end

.-.
Sims gets her shot blocked, but USA gets the rebound

Lavender makes a shot on a Sims assist, then Sims steals the ball on the other end

Gets the ball to Stewey for another assist. Then she fouls. Newbies

Sims fouls again.
Diggins misses her shot, China rebounds.

1:27 to go in the half

.-.
Sims makes 33333333333333333333333333333 on a McBride assist

.-.
Sims hits a 3 and has a steal. I like what I am "seeing" from her today. She is having an impact.

51 - 24 end of quarter.

SO.....USA steps up the defense or China is not in the same league as Australia
Stewey is doing fine.

I have to surmise that the new guys with the exception of Nneka and Stewey are having some trouble adjusting to this level of play - they do score and get assists but as I mentioned before, they rush their game or get out of position causing turnovers and fouling. If there was time, that would sort itself out I am sure, especially with Geno coaching.

And then I have to wonder about Griner who played in China last year. This Chinese team seems a tad slower and more easily disrupted by the USA intense defense. Some may think that she can step in and just play, but I am thinking that she, too would benefit with some time on the court at this level and this USA team. It's too bad that she is missing these games, I would want her to be an asset rather than a bench warmer....

I think it is also clear that the first 15 minutes of the game was about team USA and the last five was about the last two places on the team. Starting five went about 8 minutes in Q1 and then the second team came in for the rest and the start of the second Q. Diggins was the first of the rest to make it in at around the 6 minute mark of Q2 followed fairly soon by OS, KM, and Lavender, and then Dolson got in at the end.

Very interesting to note that the first 10 had a total of 3 fouls through 15 minutes - one each on Bird, Whalen, and Angel. The last five players had five fouls in 5 minutes putting USA over the limit and leading to foul shots

THink about this: Geno had all the newbies on the floor at the end of the half with the exception of Stewey and Nneka:

Sims
Diggins
Lavender
McBride and Dolson
