Sims makes 33333333333333333333333333333 on a McBride assist

Sims hits a 3 and has a steal. I like what I am "seeing" from her today. She is having an impact.

51 - 24 end of quarter.

SO.....USA steps up the defense or China is not in the same league as Australia
Stewey is doing fine.

I have to surmise that the new guys with the exception of Nneka and Stewey are having some trouble adjusting to this level of play - they do score and get assists but as I mentioned before, they rush their game or get out of position causing turnovers and fouling. If there was time, that would sort itself out I am sure, especially with Geno coaching.

And then I have to wonder about Griner who played in China last year. This Chinese team seems a tad slower and more easily disrupted by the USA intense defense. Some may think that she can step in and just play, but I am thinking that she, too would benefit with some time on the court at this level and this USA team. It's too bad that she is missing these games, I would want her to be an asset rather than a bench warmer....

I think it is also clear that the first 15 minutes of the game was about team USA and the last five was about the last two places on the team. Starting five went about 8 minutes in Q1 and then the second team came in for the rest and the start of the second Q. Diggins was the first of the rest to make it in at around the 6 minute mark of Q2 followed fairly soon by OS, KM, and Lavender, and then Dolson got in at the end.

Very interesting to note that the first 10 had a total of 3 fouls through 15 minutes - one each on Bird, Whalen, and Angel. The last five players had five fouls in 5 minutes putting USA over the limit and leading to foul shots

THink about this: Geno had all the newbies on the floor at the end of the half with the exception of Stewey and Nneka:

Sims
Diggins
Lavender
McBride and Dolson

It goes to my supposition that they are not used to this style of play - out of position, and making bad choices....It will get better...

I also think that it will depend upon which player can shake off these mistakes, collect themselves and get right back in there and be productive

3rd quarter, starters are back in

Here we go

CHina wins the toss but Dee steals it.

Charles misses a 2, Moore gets the rebound but also misses, then Charles misses after Dee gets the rebound on the other end, China scores

Dee is fouled

Dupree makes a 2, thenChina scores a 3 - first one I think..

moving on...Dupree comits a non shooting foul, Dee with another defensive rebound.
Moore scores 2 on a Bird assist

Charles with a block on the other end, Bird gets the rebound, there goes USA

Dupree misses the shot, and Maya commits a foul on the other end, China makes both shots.

Score is 55 - 33, 5:45 to go

Dupree misses again, then Dee fouls, get subbed out for Whalen

It's a shooting foul, China makes one of 2

Moore misses a trey, China gets the rebound

Moore misses a two, China again scores

Bird misses, Charles grabs the rebound..Dupree fouls
Charles gets a defensive rebound, gives the ball to Maya for a deuce, Charles gets the assist

Subs coming in

USA comes out cold and slow for second half - China comes out fired up after a bad first half

I'll trade Sims' 3 points, 2 assists and 1 steal for 1 foul.

Charles out, Lavender in, Moore out, Augustus in.

China makes one of 2 free throws
