OT: Checking in with CCSU Basketball

Question, are they still playing in the crappy high school gym? I went to CCSU 97-99. Team was exciting then, gym was terrible. It was fun though.

Watched yesterday’s game from the new “hospitality suite” they have there. Had a decent crowd for playing a terrible Chicago State team on Championship Sunday. Wish more people would come out to games. They’re a really good team, they have a real shot at winning the NEC and making the tourney.

I work in CCSU’s athletic department so I’m very familiar with the team, there’s no question their roster is far more talented than the rest of the NEC. Really veteran group led by a group of four seniors who have been with Sellers his entire time here, combined with some really good transfers and recruits. It would be a major disappointment if that team doesn’t win the NEC, this is their window to reach March Madness for sure. Sellers has done an absolutely incredible job rebuilding the program, it’s been amazing to watch!

Any insight as to what an NIL budget is for a team like CCSU? Was happy to see they retained key players from last year.

Jared, I've shared this on Twitter already, but amongst the sea of talking heads, you are my favorite UConn/CT Sports interviewer by a mile.

Fun fact: four of CCSU's best players (Brown, Momoh, Sweatman, Ostrowsky) are seniors who have been with the program since their freshman year.

In the day and age of portal/NIL that is so rare.

Tells you a lot about Patrick Sellers. Congrats to him and best of luck to CCSU.

I expect the crowds will start getting larger as we get closer to March, especially among students. Typically the weeknight games are better attended then weekends since CCSU is predominantly a commuter school

Very minimal. There are small opportunities here and there, and this year we partnered with Opendorse so players can have their own personalized shirts/hoodies to sell, but other than that it’s limited

I wanted to take my 4 year old to the Sunday game. He’s borderline autistic (we’re evaluating). I brought him to a CCSU football game and he didn’t do well. The sound system really messed with him and we had to leave early.

Anyways I figured a CCSU basketball game would be better for him. Is the skybox at the CCSU game quieter than the bleachers? What’s the atmosphere like in there? @BlueWolf25 @NotADime89

Probably can’t take him to a UConn game until he’s older. Baby steps. I have 3 boys under 5 years old and I want to start getting them to the games.

CCSU game would probably be a great start. Even if it doesn't work out tickets are cheap enough so it wouldn't be the worst if you had to leave because of the noise. They skybox is open to the court too so wouldn't be quieter up there since it right next to where the pep band plays (I don't think they sell tickets to the skybox, we were invited by someone we knew in the Athletics office). You can walk in and out of the court too so if it got to loud and you needed to take a break and go outside its easy to do. Hope it works out

This popped up on my feed so figured I’d share.

CCSU commit from Holy Cross (CT) just scored his 2,000th point on a 47 point game. Not seeing much in terms of recruiting.

His coach Mike Wilson was a baller.

Big win tonight. Pat is a stud. CCSU ought to hang onto him with all they can and try to ride it to an America East or MAAC invite.

Somewhat similar issues with my son when he was young going to games at Gampel.

Bringing a good pair of head phones and having them wear them during the game (or ear plugs) made a world of difference for us.

Have seen lots of young kids do the same.
