I think this will be a very telling and interesting first rankings for the playoff. What do we think they'll do? The only thing certain is that Georgia will be #1. After that is anyone's guess.

Oklahoma, Cincinnati, Michigan State, and Wake Forest are undefeated. Oklahoma has a lot of "close" wins but their best win is what 5-3 Kansas State? Cincinnati's best win is 7-1 Notre Dame on the road, but has had a so-so at best schedule otherwise. Michigan State's best win is at home over a 7-1 Michigan team who's best win is probably Wisconsin (5-3). Wake's best win is likely Virginia who is 6-3.

As for the one loss team's, Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, and Notre Dame probably have the best resumes. Here's my guess:

1) Georgia
2) Michigan State
3) Cincinnati
4) Oklahoma
5) Alabama
6) Ohio State
7) Oregon
8) Notre Dame
9) Wake Forest
10) Michigan

Oregon won't be happy to see Ohio State ahead of them.
I think that one is going to be one of the most contentious in the room. Oregon won @ Ohio State but backed it up by losing to a mediocre (at best) Stanford team. It's tough to choose. Which is why neither one should be in the top 4.

No way Cincy is in the top 4, they'll be right on the outside looking in like every G5 team in history

I think there has been maveuvering to keep Cincinnati within range...maybe, after UCF's snub, the appearance of the best undefeated G5 team having a chance is something the Committee wants to preserve.

Cincinnati's problem will be body of work....

Cincy SOS is 94 without a lot of room for improvement.

Georgia is 24 and will play Alabama in the CCG.
Alabama has one loss but SOS is 18 and will play Georgia in CCG
Notre Dame is 7-1 with an SOS of 8
Ohio State is 7-1 with an SOS of 43
Michigan State is 8-0 with an SOS of 43

That pretty much solidifies Cincinnati's fate unless there's major turmoil up top.

Ohio state was ranked 14 in the inaugural rankings in 2014 and won the championship, so anything could happen.
But then I think the whole thing is a sham and they should just use the AP rankings so what does it really matter?

Cincy's problem is that Indiana (2-6) is bad and Notre Dame has a weak schedule.

And the game against Murray St. Huge mistake. You can’t be a G5 team AND have FCS opponents.

But Indiana sucking is a major downer for them.

Also those tepid games against Navy and Tulane. Those needed to be beat downs.

Not surprised about Bama. They absolutely crushed Top 20 ole miss and miss st. And the TAMU loss doesn’t look as bad now.

the committee essentially said that game against A&M meant nothing for bama. If they won they wouldn’t have leap frogged Georgia (people forget they were 24 point favorites) and they obviously are still number 2. Committee is a joke.

the line at the time is irrelevant
Corollary: what a team was ranked at the time is also irrelevant.

If a team has a loss and another has none - regardless of schedule, the team without a loss deserves to be ranked ahead
If Bama is so big and bad they should have taken care of business
If the committee doesn't see it that way, Bama, Clemson, NDame and some others will always be in the final four with 1 loss while some undefeated teams are on the outside looking in
They need to expand it to 10-12 teams ideally but at least 8

Who has bama beaten? An unranked A&M team that is only ranked because they beat Bama and Mississippi who lost to Memphis. They don’t have the second best resume. The committee just wants the best matchups for TV they don’t care about the actual four best teams.

So UTSA should be in the top 9?
