One of the best things about 1-AA was the 16 team playoff. I know they'll never get there because of the amount of games and further erosion of the bowls, but 4 ain't cutting it...

I understand where you're coming from but hate the notion of room for only 1 g5 team. Say the mw and the aac both have fantastic years that coincide and both are ranked between 7 and 10. The conference left out with an undefeated team will have every gripe ucf and the aac has this year.

I think an 8 team playoff is fine. The highest ranked conference champions make it. A caveat being you must be ranked at a set cut off, whether that is top 25, 20, 15 etc. If a conference champ, be it p5 or g5 are not ranked at the cut off, they are out. The remaining spots are filled with the highest ranked teams til all spots are filled.
