CCSU Post Game Thread

Ehhh…. This post you might have kept in your back pocket for a couple of weeks.

We racked up nearly 700 yards of offense and some players won nationwide recognition for play yesterday.

JF did miss some throws… or did receiver cut left when they should have cut right?

Lots of new receivers out there.

You may end up being right but not yet IMO
I thought Joe F played well above average. He missed a few but also dropped some dimes. He’s easily the best QB we’ve had in a long, long time. As good as every one thinks Evers played (which was a marked improvement), he’s still staring down receivers and not seeing the field. He looks better, but a quality team eats him alive if he can get past his primary.

Everyone on this board knows I'm a big JF guy, but we need to accept that he is an average FBS quarterback. And that's great for us. But he is going to miss reads and miss guys. He's going to have too much zip when he should have touch and he's going to have too much touch when he should have zip.

Based on the purgatory we've been through, his competence feels like Vince Young. But he's just Joe.
He is an above average FBS QB and UConn was lucky to pick him up. Thank you Nick Charlton. Here are his career stats:

59.4% completion %, 7,530 yards, 68 TDs, 17 Int, 141.2 QB rating.

Last year his QB rating was 152.9, which was ranked #15 nationally in FBS. His 20 TD passes last year were the 6th most by a UConn QB all time and the most by a UConn QB in 20 years.

Compared to virtually every other large event facility in the Northeast, the Rent is an easy out. Way better than Foxboro, Met Life, BC,. Fenway,…
Both posts are true. Getting out of the Rent with 30k or 35k people is as easy as it’s going to be anywhere. On the other hand, parking at the Rent has become more complicated the last few years because, at least in the blue lot, for the first few hours there are no attendants and folks park wherever they want.

Crazy speculation, gridiron performance for about a decade resulted in fewer fans, fewer vehicles, and decreased need for extra egress, LAZ parking staff, costs, etc.
I think the most likely explanation is so that LAZ can have less people on staff by reducing the exits. The need has always been there. PAWS makes 20k people exiting the stadium look like it's the Rose Bowl.

If UConn Football wants to make the biggest game day impact for the fan experience in my opinion, they should open the South Gate and force LAZ to staff accordingly...

What's amazing here on the Boneyard is that we have had some really garbage QBs and some people twisted themselves into pretzels insisting that these guys were actually good.

Now that we have a good QB there are a few people trying to twist themselves into pretzels to convince us that he isn't good.

Amazing.

Is he the best QB we have had since Dan O?

I certainly am not complaining about our QB situation. There were things he could and will improve on. I just think the bar of "awful" needs to be elevated and made some observations based on that.

Some of those balls he threw looked like they were on a wire. He made some bad decisions too. His career stats are much better than average.

We had many years of watching our QB's run for their lives every pass play. There was rarely any stepping up into the pocket or progressions. It's a miracle Casey Cochrane did what he did.

I felt like a couple of the misses, especially to Chiaokhiao-Bowman were new receiver - QB chemistry issues. The biggest concern I had on the defense (and I'd assume the d-line was playing pretty vanilla) was the couple of open passes to the TE right down the seem (although at least one was a well thrown ball into the hole of the zone). Overall it was a good day, good attendance and a good result.

LAZ could almost staff it to lot entrances only, and it would be better. Why they insist on complicating it, is beyond me.

Locked on UConn is back with a new host. Went to the game which is a good sign and had a lot of energy talking about the team, with some decent knowledge as well. Glad to have more consistent UConn content back.

Mike Mutnansky was(and maybe still is) a talk show host on WEEI in Boston for a long time. He is worth listening to!

Close, but Endres was that guy for me. Cochran pre injury looked like he would be something, too.

I would also have liked to see Pindell play with these weapons.
Neither Cochran nor Enders played enough games to really judge them, and I’d say the same for Pindell’s one year after having played horrifically the year before against Holy Cross and getting benched for the season. Shireffs (forgive the spelling) is the answer to your question. If JF has an outstanding year this year he may become the correct answer. But too early yet.

That was a great watch. Don't know if I will view it everyday, but I subscribed and hope to.

Bleed Blue!

Honest assessment. He did not lead a couple guys that could have been TDs that were inaccurate. Was behind the receiver on a multiple throws including a badly underthrown ball that definitely ahould have been picked and could have been a pick 6 on a deep crossing partern. Area for most improvent though was the number of wide open receivers he never saw and thre elsewhere. Entire team can improve a lot and its nice to critique a 59-13 beat down instead of a close win or god forbid an awful loss.
Also hit guys in the hands and chest, and got an incomplete for it.

Pindell was really good, 3000 total yards and 29 TDs. He woulda won a ton of games if we didn’t have a historically bad defense…
