AFAIK a team can have an unlimited number of walk on players.
For instance, if a very tall volleyball player knows how to play basketball then they could join the team & begin playing immediately.
WCBB is the top women's sport on the NCAA list - therefore, and athletic scholarship a player is receiving from UConn for a different sport would automatically be re-designated as a WCBB scholarship. A player from another sport can only play as a walk-on for WCBB if they give up any scholarship they are receiving for their primary sport.

You may be right but in this case UConn has an open scholarship that doesn't need to be renewed.

Some sports in some Divisions do allow a scholarship athlete to play a primary & secondary sport without giving up their primary scholarship. Baseball is mentioned as an example of a secondary sport where the player wouldn't need to lose their primary scholarship. See the video on the page below

You’re talking about college kids that play a sport, not professional athletes that take a class in their spare time. Assuming a volleyball player is talented enough to play for a top 25 team, knows the offensive schemes, and can play high Div I defense, where will she find the time and energy to play and practice two sports and take her classes? What happens if she has a home game in one sport and a road game in the other in consecutive nights? The poor kid would keel over in exhaustion

Remember that volleyball season is over now, so games in both sports would not be an issue. However, once classes start again later in January, there could be conflicts between basketball and volleyball training sessions.

If Caroline is bothered by lights and crowds then she needs to retire from basketball. Watching the games where she takes a little contact to the head and immediately leaves the game tells me she is in a dangerous place as it pertains to concussions. Caroline isn't going to make a career out of playing basketball so I would recommend she start the next chapter of her life to ensure she has the quality of life every young athlete deserves after they are done playing.
1000% agree. I worry about 50 year old CD. Head injuries are no joke. She needs to roll out now. Her choice, of course.

Those details can get worked out between the coaches.
Mentioning a UConn volleyball player was a poor example.
But there could be a lot of competant ex-high school athletes or ex-military that aren't playing college sports.
There's a whole world full of potential big players but all we have is Amari & Ines. :D

When I watched a ton of videos of Caroline in High School, she became my favorite Uconn player after Katy Lou. She was bombing 3's all over the court and pushing lay-ups with ease. I really enjoyed her freshman year and thought she was going to be another Katie Lou. But, what has happened to her the last 2 years is catastrophic and I never saw her become the player she could have been, the player she should have been. I pray Caroline overcomes this affliction and gets to play again like she can. GO CAROLINE!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!
I think the only way she will have a chance to be the player you remember is to " red shirt" this year and sit by the river painting scenery. She needs a year of rest. Not sure she should ever play again.

I think it is fair to say Caroline's basketball career is in jeopardy, but too early to conclude that it is over. I agree with you that if if a little contact continues to cause problems farther down the road, it probably is over, but I suspect her issues could clear up over time as well.

Last year because of the hip surgery and concussion issues she was never in top condition and it showed. She wasn't able to stay in shape over the summer because of the hip surgery, and when concussion came as well, complete rest and doing nothing was the recommended treatment, so even if the head cleared up, she still wasn't in game shape.

This year with presumably an effective off-season routine she came back looking fit and fine and based on some comments from Geno was looking pretty good. Then a bang on the head on the trip, back to day by day and similar concussion issues. I don't know what the future will bring but think the team will be very conservative regarding her potential return, meaning if she is having any issues at all, sounds, lights, headaches etc. she probably won't return.

Being a possible factor this season isn't ruled out yet IMO, but given the time out, I think she would need a couple of weeks after being cleared to be ready to contribute, so at best much of the season would be missed and the redshirt possibility might soon become more likely, but who knows.

Very interesting

I think the last thing in the world Caroline should be thinking about is basketball. When you have developed the history concussions and the symptoms, she has it's time to concentrate on one thing and one thing only - your health.

Well said, Rowdy

If a rough airplane ride caused renewed symptoms, Caroline could be a long, long way from playing a sport where you're constantly being knocked to the ground. I agree with Urshurak, think about Caroline at age 50. Will she be sharp and vibrant, or something else?
