Carla Berube to become next Northwestern WBB coach !!!!

"When we launched a national search months ago with our outstanding search committee, we set forth with three goals in mind," Jackson said. "First, we needed to find someone who was aligned with our culture at Northwestern. Second, a proven winner with NCAA Tournament experience. And lastly, someone who could navigate an elite academic environment in the most competitive athletic conference in the country. Carla Berube delivers on all fronts. Equally as important, we found a leader with a rare combination of fierce competitiveness, humility and the ability to develop players and people with compassion and dedication. We are thrilled to welcome Carla and her family to Northwestern."

Northwestern University- second most NCAA women’s lacrosse national championships-8, only Maryland has more-14 and they play lacrosse in MD. They can support women’s sports.
Crystal Ball: Geno eventually retires. Carla turns around Northwestern into a tournament team. The 2 lines intersect and Carla replaces Geno at UConn. What think you?

The Big Ten is not an easy conference to play in......Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Oregon, UCLA and USC, Washington etc.......she's taking on quite a challenge, not too much different than Shea at Vanderbilt.....I'll be curious to see how she builds her team.......

Wonder if Madison St Rose her senior with a year of eligibility is her first new recruit.

I hope she has some support (and NIL money) to work with. Not a program with a tradition of excellence and with a lot of good programs in the expanded conference. Academically excellent, and suburban Chicago is a nice draw. Hope it works.

This is great news for Carla and for UConn. I still believe that she will be the next head coach to replace Geno. Sarah will be at the school for two more years and Olivia three. So Carla has at least five seasons of P4 ball to get under her belt. Beruubeee.
Not so sure, if she can’t succeed at NW.

I would say though, that it’s a different kind of success at Northwestern. Maybe 500 league record, top 30-40 teams in America. I’m thinking of the football program. They’re not pushovers and they play in a league with huge teams. If I went to Northwestern, I’d go to every game.
Like Geno’s teams before Lobo.( I watch all the interviews). Tough outs. Geno said he needed to win all his home games and split with about 4 rivals and he could finish 12-4 in the league and maybe win it. Remember he said that.

If she even considered coming to UConn, she would have stayed at Princeton. While Northwestern is tops academically in the big Ten, it is historically not one of the top schools athletically, specifically WBB (over its last three seasons, Northwestern women’s basketball has won just eight conference games — while losing 45)., so she has a long road to success there, requiring much patience in recruiting and team building (as women’s basketball viewership and attendance have skyrocketed nationwide, NU remains a program stuck in the past).

Probably a big jump in salary. Be interesting to see how she does with recruiting and NIL vs. the Ivy League. I would say - perhaps with crossed fingers - that the move might also set her up to be near the top of the UConn list when the end of Geno's run arrives.

Talk about great hire!! I love it!! First off, the academics and recruiting. Coach Berube knows how to navigate that layer of talent and find players that fit the Princeton academic standards. Just think what she is going to do at Northwestern? Secondly, the skill development angle. Coach developed her Princeton players and had those players playing well. Thirdly, Northwestern is a few years removed from being a NCAA tournament team and being in that middle of the pack of the Big Ten. This is a great hire. Well done, Northwestern and congrats, Coach Berube!!

It’s a jump to Power 3 conference. Hopefully they’ll make resources available to her (ie NIL)
I like this 😀 the Big10 and SEC view the world as the P2.

This move pleasantly surprising, as many had pegged Carla a Princeton lifer.

Curious also to see if Northwestern truly invested here trying to keep up with Vanderbilt, or if they continue to muddle along in classic Wildcat style.

This move also increases likelihood that CB would entertain way in the future a move to Storrs.

Excited to watch the new squad next year in Evanston.

After years of trying to displace jousting as the Maryland official state sport (1962 -- first state to adopt an official sport), they finally got lacrosse adopted as the official state team sport.

No just the opposite. Most guessed she would just stay forever at Princeton.

This transfer shows she is open to move around and responsive to more salary/bigger challenge.

In 4-5 years, she will have had experience in both Ivy and Big10, making her an even better candidate for UConn (or Stanford having to deal with tough admissions criteria).

Obviously, CB now also has to show progress at Northwestern; no easy task.

I think Shea came into Vandy at a moment when Vandy's board of governors (or who ever sets the agenda for the school) decided it was time to invest all that SEC money in a serious expansion in athletics. (Not unlike a few years after Geno arrived in Storrs, or the commitment SC made when Dawn was hired.) For Carla, I hope Northwestern is on the same path. If they aren't, if they are content with status quo, it will be a huge mountain to climb for her. Coaching only takes you so far.

If Shea won’t come, I think it’s great!

Congrats to Carla. Happy she is making the jump to a P4 league and a high academic institution. Not to mention a move to Chicago!!!
