They didn't play much this year. They might have played even less next year (with transfers and another recruiting class coming in). It is hard to blame them.

The talent spreading to more schools should be a good thing for the sport overall.

It has to make you wonder what they might have been told during the recruiting process as to how they fit into UCLA's plans regarding playing time expectations, where they fit on the depth chart for their respective decision, etc. For the whole 2024 clas to enter the portal isn't a good look for the program.
 
Given that Barker transferred last year, does she have to sit a year? There's nothing in the article saying she's graduated, not that that means she hasn't . . .

Or maybe they get extra mulligans now.

As for Barker, I'll be honest: she was one of the rawest, undisciplined juniors I've seen. Almost every time she came in, within a minute or two she'd commit a silly foul, cause a turnover, or take a bad shot. She has a ton of talent, for sure, but boy did she not play with discipline. So I guess I also didn't feel like I was seeing her consistently do on the court what she needed to do to merit being in the starter conversation, especially when even Timea Gardiner was coming off the bench. (And backing this up with stats, Barker had the most turnovers per 40 mins on the team, was 7th in eFG%, and by far the highest fouls per 40 minutes among anyone with meaningful playing time.)

Nah. I figured Barker would leave.

The key players are still there plus add Lwger-Walker and baby Betts. And now they’ve got a bunch of room to go after 3 point shooters in the portal.
