Can stewie guard mcbride?

Would be great if we could limit her, and Stewies long arms would certainly be a hindrance. But not sure if she's capable at this point. At the very least, it's a different look to throw at her.

I would not risk getting BS in foul trouble. Better to have her guard a forward and be able to free lance blocking shots.

Guarding ND is all about switching and not losing anyone in rotation and off of screens. I look for Breanna to continue her ascension and wreak havoc offensively and defensively all over the floor. We cannot allow ND to get to the stripe.

It was our zone that gave ND the greatest difficulty when we made our comeback.

Stewie just needs to show up when somebody get to close to shoot the ball. If McBride or anybody else penetrates Stewie need to get in good postion to block the shot and not foul. Kiah too. Block a few shots coming inside will force opponets to stay outside.

I don't think it's silly. I'd gladly pull Stewie away from the boards if she was the best option vs McBride. Stewie's length makes for an intriguing possibility and I think it's worth a shot. But I wouldn't be overly surprised if it didn't work because of McBride's strength advantage.

If it were me, I'd give Tuck a chance.

McBride is a unique talent. The fact is neither Kelly nor KML have had much luck with her. It's all about her strength which allows her to create the smallest bit of space and then elevate and shoot even when she doesn't have much separation. In the end, I'd give her different looks, running different (KML, Kelly, Stewie and Tuck) and RESTED defenders at her all nite. I say RESTED because you can't exect Kelly or KML to play 40 minutes and guard McBride.

Maybe we can zone her a l;ittle bit. It might reduce her one on one opps. There's also the triangle and 2 which I'm not sure Geno has used before. We've got time to prepare. And so do they. This is a fascinating aspect to the matchup.

IMHO even if Duke played an almost perfect game like Louisville did to beat Baylor, Duke can't score enough points to beat Notre Dame. Now if somehow Duke can score 75+ points then Duke has a chance. Can't see Duke scoring 65 points tonight and ND will be in the 70's.

Did Kelly guard McBride in the last game? I know Geno switched things in the SB game (KML was on her and Kelly on Diggins). I don't recall what the match-ups were in the BET. I'm not sure what to do with McBride. She's so big and strong and it's her mid-range game coming off a simple pick-and-roll that is lethal. She's not a great 3-point shooter but when she makes them they're big.

McBride hurt us. Their overextended D hurt us more, IMHO. That isn't to say you don't have a scheme to stop McBride, but getting those TOs to some decent level and we win the earlier games. That said, I quite agree. ND hasn't made it yet, so certainly premature. The games I've seen Duke play makes me think they really aren't quite at that level, but hey, I thought Louisville would be watching TV tonight.

We're playing like a completely different team.

When when you get to the end about the "Stripe," always gotta take into account the Zebra Stripess when facing ND....get a good old product of the Sod in one of those shirts, and you've got problems!! But, my tip o' the cap to those of 'em who can strive for objectivity on the court.

Not to single out your particular antagonist here in anyway, but it always disappoints me when folks on here (or in the real world) can't disagree with someone's point of view without resorting to "labeling" (as in "silly") or denigrating or name calling of one sort or another. I realize that most all of us have our limits and reach them at times.

I agree that how to guard McBride is key to UCONN coming out on top. I couldn't believe how ineffective Kelly was in guarding her the first time they played--when Kelly has shut-down so many talented offensive players. It may be more of a matter of disrupting the other players who need to get the ball to Kayla. Skylar hasn't had great games against us. McBride has been a huge contributor every time.

Sorry, didn't mean to come off that way. Just think that Stewie would be at a huge disadvantage in the open floor. Our guards are going to have to pressure the ball before Mcbride gets it. Besides, Stewie is going to create matchup headaches for ND.
