What is the purpose of a stroller for a dog? I see them everywhere these days. We used to have a dog and when we went outside it was for her to, you know, do her business but these strollers are puzzling to me. How does the dog tell you it needs a pit stop? Any help is appreciated

My parents have used strollers/carts for dogs. It is because they have multiple dogs and go on long walks.

One time there was a dog that was too old to go on the full walks. So on the daily walks they would load her into the stroller and push her the rest of the way.

Now they live in an area with a lot of rolling hills and they have a dachshund. So, the dachshund only walks certain stretches and rides in her carrier the rest of the time.

We walk in Acadian National Park (Maine, Mount Desert Island).
While our 12-year-old COONHOUND mix/rescue (BILLIE, a girl) still " walks",
many hikers on vacation "just have to" bring the canine family
member during their "old age" or other types of medical issues
(hips, vision, etc.) There is an unspoken/silent communication between the multiple
members of "the family". When BILLIE makes that certain type of
eye contact... it is time for "business". No questions asked...
"Love is never having to say that you are.... "...you get the idea!

My wife got one for our new, perfectly healthy, young dog because he does not like to go for walks. He could care less about sniffing or meeting other dogs. She took him outside on it, went down the block and the moment she turned the stroller around in the direction of our house, the "dog" leapt out and ran full speed for our front door.

I am certain that he is really an alien spy who has infiltrated out of one of the drones spotted over New Jersey.

The Head Nun (Mother Superior) at a Catholic elementary school in center city Philadelphia, with a dropping enrollment, told me that couples don't have kids any more --they have dogs!

A doggie stroller is just a natural outgrowth of putting a sweater and booties on a dog to take them for a walk…..;)

Thor lives across the street from me, a full grown Mastiff, and weighs in at about 200# but that depends if the weigh-in would occur before or after his bathroom break!

Anyway, his parents take him for walks and they bring with them a little red wagon like a kid would have. You see, there are occasions when Thor just gets tired on his walk and up and lays down, will not budge! It is about everything that Joe and Charline can do to lift Thor up into the wagon to pull him back home!

Dragging that dog through the neighborhood in a wagon embarrasses the heck out of Char, Joe thinks it is absolutely hilarious! Thor; just as long as you get him back to his pillow, he seems pretty ambivalent about the way that would occur!

I think there is an AI App now that you can download that tells you when it's time to put the leash back on.:)

If you are going someplace (think an outdoor art festival where dogs are allowed) and you don't want your dog under foot or, if a male, lifting his leg against inopportune things (or people) a carriage is perfect.
As for potty stops, take the dog out every once in a while in a relatively isolated place and then drop him or her back in the cart.
We have one now that we are using with a kitten.

We live in a 55+ community in FL, and the average age is well above 55. I had never seen a dog stroller until we moved here and see them when the weather is warm (hot pavement), some for little dogs that cannot walk as far as the owners want, and also see some that look like a walker/assist/stroller combo, so perhaps it's serving more than one function. As we are also considered a golf cart community, thankfully have not seen folks "walking" their dogs whilst driving the cart.

In cold climates the rock salt to melt the snow and ice is VERY
irritating to the sensitive paws. I just wipe BILLIE'S feet "as
necessary," but, I can see that might be another possible rational
reason for (usually old) dogs/animals to be treated "humanely"!!!
