Cam Spencer drops 51 points in a G-League game

I loved how the box score shows who didn't play - they had 3 "did not play - coach's decision' which should have been changed to 'did not play - cam was unconscious'.

He’s so fun to watch. The dude just knows how to ball and might be the fiercest competitor to ever don the Husky jersey.

Re the two way contract, it looks like he can play up to 50 games with the Grizzlies on the two way. That's a lot of games. With his injury to start the season, we're almost at the point where he can get called up for the remainder of the year, but still be on the two way. A two way contract player can't be on the playoff roster, but I'd think they can switch him at the end of the year and pay him for the NBA contract pro rata.

There could be nuances to all that, but those are the two data points (number of games and playoff roster) that I saw.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but one great thing about the two way contract is that it makes it probable that the player will find their way on to the active roster at some point during the year.

The NBA has a pretty strong pension that vests with 3 years of service. If the player is on an active roster for 1 game, it counts as a year of service. So, someone like Tyrese Martin needs to be on a roster for 1 game next year and he'll be in. That would get him $57k per year upon retirement. But even better, it would get him lifetime health insurance for himself (10 years of service gets full family coverage).

Cam played like an old man baller in a pick up game with a bunch of youngsters.

Smart. savvy. fearless. can shoot. Sneaky athletic. Grabs rebounds

goshdarn I love that kid, he is a UCONN legend

Yeah, I don’t understand how Cam is in the G league you’re telling me not one team can take him on the end of the bench. Or are the grizzlies developing him as their own and giving him reps down there. Biggest impact 1 year players in probably this order: 1a. Henefeld. 1b. Cam. 2. Castle(only because he didn’t come on till later in year )
Cam is just learning pro game and was injured this summer. He’s on a two way, so someone is going to have to get hurt or fail miserably to get him time in rotation. He‘s an nba player though if I ever saw one as an off the bench shooter,

.-.
How is he not playing in the league? I guess I don’t understand how this NBA thing works with guys like Sanogo stuck there doing so well in G league.
Can used to rebound well for us too. He had games of 8 rebounds I think.
The NBA may be similar to the movie industry with sequels.

Something works so you repeat it and then others join in and soon they believe there's no variables in a human being that might give them some special capability others don't possess.

Like Mariano Rivera. His "cutter" was special, maybe simply because of the size of his hand or the length of one or more fingers. He was unique and guys like Sanogo and Spencer may fit in the same category. Rodman, today, probably wouldn't even get to the G-League because he's not the right size to rebound and can't shoot.

It's puzzling why no team seems willing to play them (at least Sanogo because he's been there over a year) and find out if the tremendous numbers they're putting up in the G-league can be replicated in the NBA. A team that won't be in the lottery, for example, and isn't likely to go far in the playoffs.

The Grizzlies have another rookie Jaylen Wells from Washington st who’s been I think a bit better than expected early on. I think if he wasn’t there then Cam could get single digit minutes.

If they suffer an injury to a shooter I think they’ll work him in, in the bench role I really think he could help out because a team can’t afford to focus on him. He’d be getting open on drive and kick outs, and be facing single coverage.

In that highlight reel there’s tons of what makes him so dangerous in single coverage. Those little fakes are so effective at giving him an extra 2 seconds to shoot a really high percentage shot.

I feel like if the Grizz don’t use him someone will end up seeing the value in a spot up shooter. Celtics get good value out of a guy whose mostly just a shooter coming in to inject some points
