The double flute was a common instrument in ancient Greece. See Aulos - Wikipedia.

The argol (arghul) is a current Middle-eastern double pipe woodwind. It’s not a flute, but a reed. Yusef Lateef was the only person I’ve ever heard play it:

Lovely. Now I’m going to be listening to Dvorak all day.

Check out his Requiem. It’s not spoken of with the same reverence as Mozart or Verdi, but it’s probably my favorite piece of choral music.

I never knew that melody had words!

The words were written by William Arms Fisher a couple of decades after the symphony. I first heard it by Paul Robeson -- my folks had this live version:
