If he had eight scholarships he would recruit eight players.

Ollie seems like he is husbanding his resources a little more. Saving a couple for next year.

I am fine with this. Some of the recruits we brought in toward the end of the Calhoun Era probably shouldn't have been recruited in the first place. This only led to more transfers and eventually killed our APR.

This is true. Comes with a price though. If you have 13 scholarship players and a 9 man rotation, you're going to have 4 guys at the end of the bench who might be grumpy enough to transfer and potentially hurt APR.

Also let's not fool ourselves we have scholarships left over because we missed on guys. But, I agree let's not go after real marginal players to just fill the rooster.

JC also never said "ten toes in". He said "why the #%$@ are you late?" "What the $%&# was that?"

Different times different methods. Although if some 4 star big man comes around from Juco or whatever- I could see him pulling the trigger.

This year all are filled. Right now only one available for next year, could fill in spring. If DD leaves or Boat that would free up two more but he wants to wait and see. If they leave he could fill with post grad players or just keep as our only 2015 opening. We need to have 2-3 openings for 2015.

We also have had guys who were clearly going to turn pro early in the past. I don't think you can say that about Boat/DD. They certainly might, but handing out their scholarships is jumping the gun.

Plus, we've used the fifth-year transfer option twice which Calhoun never used. Makes more sense to get an RJ Evans for one year instead of a Darius Smith/Jamaal Trice for one year.

We missed some targets, but ended up signing guys in their spots (Cassell instead of Perkins, Snider; Lubin instead of Abu, Larrier, Colson).

I like where we're at - we can wait on Boat/DD, fish in the spring for a late bloomer, fifth-year transfer or a regular transfer, and if Boat/DD go and there's nothing in the spring, we have no seniors next year so we can recruit 15s without forcing anyone out.

Agree completely. I love Calhoun but there were times during the offseason when he handled the team like a GM and that always made me uncomfortable.
