Just heard Mel Kiper and a couple of scouts rave about him. All said he is a first round pick. Take it for what it's worth, but nice to hear a Husky praised on national radio.

Nice story to tell for the coaches when they hit the recruiting trail on the upcoming spring visit period starting April 15th. With the draft pushed back to end of April the timetable fits nicely.

heard the same, but they said it will depend on his 40 time at pro day

Fitting place. Dad was a good hoopster at Wilcox Tech Meriden and a great guy. Good for Byron and his family.

Here's hoping Byron blows the doors off with his 40 time tomorrow... And gets the 1st round grade solidified... although I say the highest he goes in rd 2... I just see the kid eventually winding up at Safety in the NFL... which, IMO, would be a good spot for him in the league, and keep him there for awhile, until his political career starts.

What is the over/under on 40 time for BJ that would be considered great/good/bad by the scouts? Is it sub 4.4 is good to great, and higher than 4.4 bad? I have no idea what is viewed as "fast" anymore.

Anything under 4.5 would keep him in the first couple of rounds.

Just saw that the latest draft projections on ESPN have Jones going 30th overall to the Patriots. Was cool to see it on the bottom line during the Women's bball game tonight. Hope his pro day is as solid as his combine.

More on Byron Jones from ESPN:

The freak athlete with tape to match

Byron Jones: The UConn cornerback can broad jump a furlong and is fast and bouncy. He also displays great acceleration when he needs to recover. It would be easy to see Jones' workout footage and peg him as an athlete, but he's actually better at anticipating than simply relying on changing direction without any wasted motion, because his change-of-direction movement is probably the one clear weakness he shows on tape. I think Jones could land at safety depending on the needs of the team that drafts him. He's one of the bigger sleepers in this draft.

Where he'll land: Top 40.
