Butler Postgame Thread

I have one serious concern with this team.

Malachi Smith.
Yep for a Backup PG who was supposed to play alongside Demary at times and at least back him up adequately he has disspointed.

Looks like both teams hungover from Friday night. St Johns OT vs Xavier and us tonight. Gutsy win after a bad first half. Unfortunate takeaway from last couple of games is that Reibe and Malachi seem to have hit a wall. They need to snap out of it. Their minutes are too important.

Bench has been pretty uninspiring as a whole. This is not 23, where you'd bring that unit in and they'd be a burst of energy. With this group, you're just hoping for a decent breather. Malachi 7 minutes tonight - you can sense Dan Hurley's confidence in him has grown thin with the year.

Stewart is unplayable at this point. Every time he steps on the floor it’s like an 8-0 run the other way. He hasn’t gotten any better since he stepped on campus.
Too hard on Stewart tonight. He was a non-factor but to say he is unplayable is too far. Not a great game but glad we have him when AK has to exit the game with 2 fouls. He can shoot the ball, just needs to be more aggressive. His one driving shot missed but it opened up Reed for an offensive rebound. So that was a positive play. We need to see more from Stew for sure.

Stewart still gives us D and is a bigger body than Ross so matches up better with bruisers down low. His offfens is off right now but I wouldn't call him unplayable. Smith though right now I'm wondering if he is injured as he just looks off compared earlier to the year.
I am not holding my breath that either Stew or Ross are starters next year. I feel bad for those two as they could likely be starting at a lower level.

Robbie Hummel was awful tonight. Keep Big 10 guys on Big 10 games. Kept saying we are a work in progress.. what does that make 99% of the rest of the field? We’ve won 23 games and deserve some respect for that. Winning is hard and we do it well.
He was right about our defense.

There is no reason Ross doesnt shoot 6 3s a game. He'd hit half of em. That's his mean.

You would never know we are 23-2 with you Mr French

Wrong.

I've hardly said anything negative about them all season, don't lump me into the negative crowd, but they didn't play well. It's ok to be honest without it being a negative. I said it's good that we won, I watched the whole game and rooted for them. But they didn't play high level defense and frankly for most of the game they didn't play high level offense either.

I'm not Ruff Ruff claiming every team is better than us, I'm talking about THIS game. They got almost any shot they wanted and they aren't that good. There wasn't tons of energy. We were generally sloppy. But I'm happy they got a 10 point W and I'm thrilled they kept pace in the win column.

32 point win against Xavier a week ago, not a peep from you.

I'm on the board all the time, lol good call though. I'm generally very positive. Give it a rest.

That may be asking a lot for a guy that plays 10-15 minutes. He is shooting close to 40% this year, so chucking up 1-3 wouldn't be a bad thing.

Interior switching D was not good tonight. Too many easy points in the paint without good rotation. Fortunately we shot well and didn't turn it over as much. But would like to see us get back to good team D. Like last year we struggle to keep guys in front of us, but unlike last year, we are better at rotating to help when are guards get beat, except for tonight. I know I am nitpicking but would like to see us clean that up.

Reed & Solo carried the team. Best 2 minutes of UConn basketball in the 2nd half stretched the lead to 12 and it was ballgame.

This team has spurt-ability! Just needs to play with higher intensity the full 40. Too many lazy fouls, turnovers, etc. for a team of this caliber.

Not a peep from you in the Creighton or Xavier blowout win chats. You only complain. I guess it makes sense, you’re from Buffalo.

You sound like an idiot. I'm way more positive than negative. I'm pretty sure I did comment on those wins, but I also didn't go look up my history like a psycho. If you're such a slick sleuth, find me all the negative posts about the team from me, and find me all the positives and calling out the negative posters when they're too negative.

And when he came in we immediately gave up a huge run and went from up 7 to down 1. He’s still living off the hype of his good 12 min vs PC. At least we don’t have to hear about how he should play over Solo anymore from some people on this site.

I recall two positive plays from Smith tonight. The wide open 3 he hit and the feed into the post for Reed's and-1. Smith has been surprisingly efficient this year from 3. Now if he could just learn how to score inside the paint. He is the most passive PG I can recall at UConn. He puts no pressure on the defense and he is slow to get us into offense. But we need whatever he can give us for the few minutes he is asked to play, and tonight was not as bad as against St. Johns. Something to build on.

You're in this thread disliking every post from every poster saying any negative word about our play. Sounds like you just can't handle any critique, or maybe you know nothing about basketball.

I'm happy they won, they did some good things but they also didn't overall play great. Sorry that hurts your feelings.

Sick personal dig too, you're showing your intelligence and basketball IQ.

He dribbles WAYYYY too much, especially in this offense.

He also has a bad habit of playing hot potato with the ball when the shot clock is running out and just desperately getting it to someone with hopes they bail him out with a miracle with 3 sec left.

Nice game Solo! He is such an important part of our offense and nice to see him shoot with confidence. Would like to see him be more aggressive in transition and get to the line more. But when you shoot like that it is hard to complain.
