Some thoughts on the Butler game:
  • UConn’s win on the road today puts the Huskies on a “glide path” into the postseason, with the probable scenario that their next 7 games will all be played in the state of CT, on familiar courts, in front of loud supportive fans, with little or no travel involved.
  • From the cheering of the crowd, it sounded as if both Ash & KK had a few hundred friends and family at the game.
  • The BE awards an annual Sixth Woman of the Year award. I am sure there are a lot of deserving candidates. But for my money, Ashlynn is as good a player off the bench as I have seen anywhere in the conference this season.
  • UConn’s offense is streaky at times, but they have really ramped up their defense since the TN game, and you got to believe that if the Huskies can earn #12 this season, relentless defensive pressure will be critical to their effort. The Huskies played great defense in the 1st half. A soft zone and a little lack of focus in the 3rd qtr allowed Butler to make it respectable. But the old adage that DEFENSE TRAVELS needs to carry UConn once they get to the Big Dance.
  • Great to see KK knock down a 3 today. It is so important for KK to make an occasional 3-pt shot as we get closer to the Big Dance.
  • I sure hope Geno yelled at Azzi at halftime after she scored 2 points on 1/1 shooting. She did manage to put up 5-2nd half shots, making 4 of them.
  • Congratulations to Paige on moving past a trio of legends (Kerry, KML & Nykesha) into 6th place on UConn’s all-time scoring list. She has a little work to do to make it into the top 5, but it’s certainly not out of the question.
  • CAROLINE!!!!!!! :):):):):):):):)
  • Next up, Marquette at XL. LET'S GO HUSKIES!!!

I have been to Hinkle Fieldhouse. It is the perfect place for the film Hoosiers. I wonder which gym the team enjoys more, Walsh or Hinkle. I know Aubrey’s answer.

Parkinson’s body language showed that he would have rather been anywhere today. Butler had no answer for anything UConn wanted to do.

The added depth has certainly has had a positive impact on the defense. Other than Jana, the rest of those are terrific on the ball defenders. They just don’t take plays off defensively. The third quarter today being the exception.

McGuff got 13 on 4/15 for shooting. Paige and Azzi made her every point.

I know Ash was playing before home fans but could you really tell that she played any harder. She only knows one speed.

I wonder how teams game plan to stop Sarah. After 29 games, it still seems like she does whatever she wants on offense.

I am an unabashed Q fan. She is making good decisions in minimal minutes.. She isn’t ready for prime time but she is closer.

Seeing Caroline brought tears to my eyes.

So much to love about this game. A tiny let down in Q3 but kudos to Butler from just shooting a crazy high % from the perimeter in that quarter. When they’re hot, they’re hot!

Honestly the best part was just seeing Caroline on the floor again, even for a little bit.

Also, farewell to SNY. Thank you for everything. It was a fantastic run.

Creighton is next on Thursday at XL.

Fantastic game, 5 players in double figures. Statistically beat Butler in every category. Uconn is jelling as a unit of destruction in women's BB. My heart leaped a mile when Caroline entered the game. I pray that she will be able to play some minutes and contribute to the score. Caroline needs a break from all her bad luck. Ashlynn does not disappoint when she is in the game with 14 points. Bring on Creighton , we are ready. GO FRESHMEN!!!!! GO SOPHOMORES!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!! GO CAROLINE!!!!!

I don't get Geno's half-time rant:

He experiments (auditions) a zone
and the Butler kids get a bit of confidence and start making 3's
(which tend to be more open in zone D's)

I didn't think the U Conn kids were deficient...I'll take another look.

Yes, they got a tiny discombobulated.

But they went back to man to man and looked normal again

For me, Geno's criticism was not warranted (or misplaced).

Yeah, it was a head scratcher to me why he would switch to zone in the 3rd quarter and then get mad when Butler's threes started falling. IMO Butler would have not even scored 40 points if they stayed man-to-man in the 3rd.

Three big stories besides the win.

1. Caroline Ducharme finally cleared to play. I didn't think it would happen. So happy for her.

2. With her 23 points today, Paige moves up to 6th place on the all time UConn scoring list.

3. The last broadcast game by SNY. A great 13 year partnership is over. SNY was a great partner. I only hope the new contract can at least equal the SNY product we enjoyed.

It was interesting that as ugly a 3rd quarter UCONN played, they were able to turn it back on and smother Butler in the 4th.
As great as Paige was, the best thing in the game was: 2 minutes of Caroline! I'm sure a lot of us were fighting back tears.
Aside from that, Paige, Sarah and Ashlyn were great and every one of the regular rotation contributed.
On to Creighton and, hopefully, 4 quarters of great UCONN basketball.
