Butler Post Game Thread

He missed an assignment that lead to an open 3 in the first half but other than that there was nothing he did worse than those two. I don’t get it; he’s a special talent offensively when he has confidence, and Ross is a foul machine
In the second half he a stretch of giving up a 3 to his man in the corner, forcing up a step back three and missing badly, and giving up a dribble drive. Our lead went from 10 to 5 in less than a minute.

The missed shot would be ok, but he needs to earn his minutes on D.

The rotation is shrinking, not expanding. I wouldn't hold your breath for a sudden increase in Nowell's minutes. It's gonna be an 8-9 man rotation and I don't see where those minutes are coming from.

The bench is fine and has been a strength all year. One bad game for a few of the guys doesn't change that
I don't think Dan Hurley has a choice but to find minutes for Nowell. God forbid we lose Hass to an injury for any stretch. Right now there isn't another option but Nowell for a legit PG. And unless we're going to find another Newton in the xfer pool for next year, you have to get the guy some real experience.

After they announced that SJ was in concussion protocol, I didn't think it would have been possible for him to see the court before Nowell. I'm very curious as to what's going on there.

Whose minutes are you cutting to give Nowell his minutes?

Whomever is pretending to play PG when Hass needs a breather.
Ha. That's pretty funny. We seem to be loving hass in that role more and more. The thing I think he has that is so valuable is that he speaks Hurlese.
We need that from a pg because in our offense that job seems more demanding than most already demanding pg spots on any other team. But I do agree with you about ANowell

Not only him, but Singare and Abraham too. Rotation, we don’t need no stinkin’ rotation.

I'm actually curious. I have no idea. Besides a clean stream with no buffering, what makes a good app and a bad app? And what do people on here say about peacock?
Content. Live Sports, Quality of original tv shows, selection of old tv shows, Movies. The implication on several instances has been that it sucks and isn't worth a few bucks a year. It all depends on what you like but I prefer it over a few(not all) of the more "hyped" major tv/movie apps.

After they announced that Samson Johnson was in concussion protocol, I didn't think it would have been possible for him to see the court before Nowell. I'm very curious as to what's going on there.

Nowell is a freshman getting his feet wet. Johnson is a two time national championship player. What exactly are you curious about?

Im aware I usually have ref bias and think it's not as bad as it is. Aka Very aware on my bias, but watching us get held on every cut and screen then watching Tarris foul out on a similar bump play we fight thru hurts.

My biggest ref pet peeve is out of position calls. 74-70, Ross pulls down a board on a missed three, Brooks flopped so hard and a ref at mid court on the opposite side of the play blew a late whistle, because he saw brooks fall. Completely missed the flop. Why can't the ref in position over rule that call? It gave them 2 FT and closed the game to one possession under a minute. It's those calls that help you lose a game.

Karaban, Diarra, McNeeley carried team today.Bench continues to struggle. Mahaney’s 7 point’s definitely helped.

Ball really struggled

Peacock looked good on LGTV app, but I don’t like having to pay for yet another service to watch.
I get it. These sports are spreading out among all the major apps and if you don't pay for all of them you will miss stuff. They are all competing for content and the consumer gets jobbed with price hikes and scattered content. I have no dog in the.fight but I will say Peacock is one of the less expensive apps and in my opinion they outperform some of the more pricey apps. In the end it all depends on what you like and what it costs. I barely ever use Disney for example. I'm not a child, not a Star Wars junkie, and not a huge comic book/Marvel fan although I have enjoyed some of the movies and tv shows over the years.

BE road wins aren't suppposed to be easy because they never are. Every game presents a different challenge, that Butler crowd was raucous, obviously was expecting a road whistle. I do kind of like us playing on the road with everything going against us it builds character. We answered everytime Butler drew close, that's a sign of maturity. Thank god for our vets in AK, HD, and Samson, so glad he's back.

Another good team win. Loved Mahaeney contributing let's not forget the Baylor game , if he can give us 2-4 minute stretches in each half that's huge.

The only reason I have Disney is that the Disney/Hulu/ESPN+ bundle was cheaper than paying for Hulu and ESPN+ separately. I imagine there's something on Disney I'd watch, but I haven't found it yet.

Fell to 16 in kenpom (from 14) and dropped to 98 defensively from 97

I'm rooting for Mahaney. He had a nice game today and we do need a 3rd reliable scorer after Alex and Liam, but I think he has a long way to go on D before he plays more than Ball.
Mahaney and Ball are no different on defense - both are a liability at this point. However on offense Mahaney can be a 3 level scorer compared to Ball who is pretty much a shooter albeit a better 3 point shooter than Mahaney. Throw Ross into the 2 guard mix as well if you want the best defender of the 3

Learning to take a punch and respond, winning. This team is good, has many options, and gets tough when it matters most

I'm never going to understand the foul and free throw disparity from November through February. Until we were inside the final minute, when they had to foul just to get us into a 1 and 1 situation, it was 20-9 in fouls and 28-12 in free throws.

Come March, with a national TV audience and everybody paying attention, that foul and free throw disparity disappears. I don't think it's because we suddenly play differently. I think the refs have double standards. Maybe it's because of Hurley, IDK

I get excited if the calls are 50/50

Great win Huskies
Part of the foul disparity is bad D. Silly reach-in, careless contact when the offensive rebound is just not there, defensive breakdowns resulting in players off the ball scrambling to pick up the driver, going for the block a little too much and not getting in good defense rebounding, etc. It all adds up.

With that said, it does seem the refs are calling a lot of incidental contact on UConn while letting the other team get away with a lot of contact on our players. There was a lot of grabbing and clutching off the ball.

Just don't understand why the officiating has been a bit one-sided. It might be due to our frequent defensive mistakes just opens the team up to getting some bad calls on top of legit ones.

Hurley really ripped him after that missed assignment

Several people around here have made the point that his highest and best present usage is as a 'microwave' scorer. Until he gets a grip on the physicality of the Big East that's probably a good role for him. He can learn what he has to learn while still feeling like he's contributing and it gives Hurley another weapon instead of a roster void.

Also, is there a better name for a basketball player than Andre Screen?
He should be able to reach Joey California levels, if not better. California's defense came along, probably turned the corner to being acceptable late January, maybe early Feb.
