2021 Recruiting: Busy recruitment is heating up for Samson Johnson

He's longer than 'Scoe... He's got that 4/5 lanky length which is why I likened him to Hylton... BUT, as I stated, he's got a jumper ( a real one )... So, from your perspective, I definitely see the 'Scoe comparison. He's nowhere near as agile as 'Scoe though....
Can we agree that he's a legit stretch 4? I can envision him in that mold for us... Would be a perfect fit.
Ppl forget Roscoe was like a top 40 recruit and was ranked as a top 10 recruit his sophomore year. Didn't completely pan out that way but he had a lot of great tools.

if he can be a stretch 4, that would be awesome. But you just never know how long it will take for a young big to become a consistent shooter in college games. As pretty of a jump shot as akok has, he shot 26% from 3 this past season. The potential is definitely there though.

The frame and athleticism remind me of DD. Obviously doesn't have the same skill level DD showed in high school, but put 25 pounds on him and Samson could be a heck of a college player.
DD? Doris Day? I don't think she plays basketball.

Fair question. Everyone should develop self awareness of their strengths and weaknesses. An example is as a homeowner what you think you can do yourself vs. hiring someone. Not having that self awareness of your strengths and weaknesses can be costly and get you in trouble. Chief hopes that helps.

Can you detail your weaknesses for us?

Is he really a priority target for us or a backup to Clingan? We will still have two young centers on the roster. I'd rather find a shooting guard.

He's a PF. Which is arguably the weakest roster spot.

He’s a PF in 2021 and Clingan is a C in 2022. One doesn’t affect the other. Plenty of room for a SG as well and all indications are that that is our other priority (Hawkins).

Yes, absolutely. Samson is a forward and everything is pointing towards him coming here. Shooting guard is the other priority for this class.

Depending on Akok, I guess that's true. I do look forward to seeing Springs play.

This will most likely be a 4 man class, so it makes sense to add one big to the stable. PF makes more sense than C since we have two freshmen centers in this years class and are laser focused on Clingan in 2022. Springs is also big enough to play the 5.

Springs is intriguing, but he is unknown. It seems that Johnson’s game is very different than his and Sanogo’s, meaning any two of the three should be able to share the floor together.

As for Akok, there are three possible outcomes for 2021-2022: Healthy and playing pro, healthy and at UConn, or unhealthy and at UConn (please God no). If Akok is healthy and playing for us, which I think is the most likely scenario, then it gives Johnson a year to develop as a role player. In either of the other two scenarios, we’d need a PF badly.

Kinda reminds me of a similar, maybe albeit slightly lesser, prospect to Jaren Jackson a couple years ago.

Seems like Dan Hurley/staff are recruiting as if it will be a 4 man class based on their targets/offers..Won't speculate on any other scenarios at this time..
