Build your all-time starting five with $15

PG- Smith ($1)
SG- Allen ($5)
SF- Gay ($3)
PF- Karaban ($1)
C- Okafor ($5)

Three AA’s. I think this team would play together really well. Shooters that could space the floor while allowing open lanes for dribble drive penetrations. Plenty of scoring with a service able defense. Smith was a stud and a bargain at $1.

Okafor 5 and Clingan 3?

Napier 3 and Newton 4?

Let the debates begin.

Smitty
Burrell
Castle
Donyell
Oak

I have plus defenders at every position, length, speed, and shooting.

Smitty, Burrell and Castle wreak havoc defensively on the perimeter and gum up passing lanes. Marshall and Okafor erase everything at the rim.

Transition offense is a blur with Okafor outlets and Smitty or Castle bringing it up with Burrell and Marshall filling the wings.

I'm going:

El-Amin (2)
Castle (3)
Butler (4)
Karaban (1)
Okafor (5)

I know you don't have to pick exactly one guy at each dollar value, just worked out that way.

We have toughness, leadership, unbelievable basketball IQ, stout interior and perimeter defense, and enough offense/spacing to score reliably without being dependent on the 3. Ballhandling is maybe a bit light, but any of the first 3 can handle it, and Castle's PG skills were underutilized here (for valid reasons).

Honestly just give me the 5 $3 players. That team would be insane
I was just about to say the same thing. That's a killer lineup.

Though Kemba, Castle, Lamb, Adrien, and Clingan would be great as well.

My lineup is Bazz, Steph, DC (3$ each), Meka (5$) and Smith(1$)

Good luck to score against this defense juggernaut which will take the oxygen out of any offense.

Give me the entire $1 row with Jim Calhoun and keep the change.

I know you can win a title with those 5 guys.

Smith, though I'd prefer Talik, Hawkins, Burrell, Karaban and Drummond.

I think Clingan and Rip are the 2 must haves. Then throw in that moxie at guard with Kemba, Bazz or El Amin and it doesn’t even really matter who the other 2 are. You could debate all day about Emeka vs. Clingan, but for $2 less I’m taking Clingan all day long.

PG - Kemba -$5
SG - Gordon -$4
SF - Lamb - $2
PF - AK - $1
C - Clingan - $3

Honestly I didn't spend much time on this and didn't base it off sheer talent, so I can probably be convinced another lineup is better pretty easily, lol. But as far as my reasoning goes:

-Elite shooting and penetration at both guard spots. Two dudes who can go out and get you a bucket when you really need one. Worth spending 60% of my budget on IMO.

-However both are smaller guards with defensive limitations, so I have Clingan anchoring the paint on defense.

- AK is the ideal role player for any team and is an absolute steal at only $1.

- I only had $2 left but I'm fine "getting stuck" with Lamb as my SF

This was fun and wanted to share.

Harder question, make a roster that wouldn't win a title, lol.

For now, I'm going with this $13 team.

Backcourt -- Going with length, versatility and defensively stout

PG - $4 Newton - Big two-way lead guard who can close games.

G - $2 Lamb - Long perimeter floor-spacer, who is an underrated bucket-generator, decent secondary passer and underrated defender

G - $3 Castle - Big two-way guard who can get to the basket and be a secondary PG

Frontcourt

F - $1 Karaban - Easy money play. Elite spacer, smart, versatile offensive weapon.

C - $3 Clingan - The best defensive center in the history of UConn? Plus, underrated versatility on offense.

Karaban at $1 is comical. It's like getting 200 points on a test for writing your name it's such an obvious choice lol.

When I first looked at the list my brain said, "I don't care if he's 5 bucks, I need Okafor." He still just feels like the most dominant force we've had down low. But then I saw Clingan at $3, and realized he probably had just as much of a defensive impact, if not more, and was much cheaper. That became a no brainer choice as well.

You're right, it would be much harder to make a team from this list that wouldn't have a shot at a title. Even if you were only allowed to use the 1 and 2 dollar guys haha

So much depth at several positions. SG, PG, SF, C all have minimal fall off in the $5-$3 slots. I'm not sure Rip is even the best SF. Center and PG are strong even to $1. The one $5 guy I think you need to take is Marshall. I could see an argument for Cliff if you get the NBA Cliff that was making 3s. Marshall added so much versatility and shot blocking that pairing him with any of these guys would yield a dominant team.

You could add another column with bench players.

Oriaki, Brimah, Talik, Giffey, Freeman, Moore, Depriest, a whole bunch of role players

You can literally pick any 5 that costs $15 and have a heckuva team. I'll take 3 $3 players - Napier, Castle, Clingan. Add Donyell at the 4, and that leaves a superb athlete who played years in the NBA for $1, Scotty B.
