WOW. Crazy win, complete domination start to finish

Our defense ate Buffalo alive. Less than 200 yards total offense, and probably half of it came in garbage time

Great running from Cam and Robinson. Great all around game from Mel Brown

Sky Bell 150 yards and 3 TDs, this kid is a beast

And how about Joe Fagnano coming in blazing hot for 200 yards and 3 TDs. Picked them apart

Great win!!
And Joe easily could have had 2 more TDs but overthrew open receivers when he first came in.

That's the best UConn has looked in many years. Buffalo isn't bad and we made them look terrible. Total domination on both lines and we ran all over them. Both our coordinators called a great game. Sammis really growing and Brock called a perfect game defensively, his energy was also awesome. The team is confident and playing with a chip on their shoulder, it's exciting to see.

One last thing, Fagnano is clearly better than Evers and he should be starting from here on out whether Evers is healthy or not. Evers can't throw and Fagnano can, Bell is our biggest weapon and he's taken out of the game when Evers is playing. What Evers gives the team on the ground isn't nearly good enough to outweigh him not being a passing threat. We have a great offensive line and great running backs, we need to have a passer back there and that's Fagnano.
I was big Fagnano fan but Evers was playing well before he went down.

I think it’s fair to say that with Offensive Line we have now - Joe is probably the better QB…. But I don’t think this needs to be a big debate - they’re both going to play a lot this year evidently.

Really love watching them play so well. It doesn't seem like they are playing over their heads. They are just playing to capabilities. Taking advantages of plays when they are there and executing on both sides of the ball. Just a joy to watch.

I’ll leave the more nuanced takes to the wiser BYers.
I’ve seen that sugar high look before.

Fun, fun fun!

Good:

- Confusing/Mystifying Defense - Showing an all-out blitz to then only rush three. Jelani Staffard with a PBU. Interesting that we show DE blitz only to have them drop back in coverage.

- 4th Down Defense - Buffalo had 3 chances to get 1 (one) whole yard towards the end of the first quarter. As Adama Sanogo would say, "They thought they could move the ball against us. They did not." Men vs boys right now. All in all, UConn held the Bulls to 0-3 on fourth downs.

-3rd Down Defense - Buffalo was 1-14 on 3rd downs. Average line to gain on third downs was 6.8 yards.

  • Three and outs - UConn forced NINE three and outs. Here's a sequence in the 2nd quarter by the Husky D:
  • 1st and 10 - Sack, Langston Hardy, -6 yards
  • 2nd and 16 - TFL, -3 yards
  • 3rd and 19 - Incomplete pass

Here's another sequence:
  • 1st and 10 - TFL, -1 yard
  • False Start
  • Delay of Game
  • 2nd and 21 - 5 yard pass
  • 3rd and 16 - SACK, Langston Hardy, -11 yards

- Cam Edwards. What a block on all-world LB Dolak in the first drive. Fun watching him grow up. He's still growing into his potential.

- Skyler Bell. 3 TDS today, first time a UConn skill player did that since 1996. STAR!

- Playcalling. OC Sammis is also growing into his potential. I see him actively getting better. On Edwards first TD, he called trips right to put Dolak on that side and ran Edwards the other way. This was most of the game. Excellent overall game plan.

- PK Freeman. 100% on field goals since the FAU game. Perfect on all extra points. A question mark to start the season, now an answer. Exactly center through the goal past as well.

- Multiple Stars. Buffalo really only has Brian Dolak. But football is an 11-man game. UConn spent most of the game running and passing on the opposite side of the field away from Dolak. We have stars everywhere. Skylar Bell, Cam Edwards, Durrell Robinson, Jelani Stafford, Dalmont Gourdine, Langston Hardy, Jayden McDonald, Cam Chadwick, Jordan Wright, and so many others.

- Joe Fagnano. Guy just shows up and is ready to work. 3 TDs and 200+ years in two quarters of play.

- We were faster, stronger, better today. Those of you that said you would be happy with UConn FB being mediocre. Well, looks like we're pass that line and into good territory.

Meh:

- #7 Solomon Brown on Buffalo should've been ejected from targeting. UConn players were removed with less against Maryland. Then to have a pass called back because replay called for a review after the next play already started. At least UConn defense stopped them on 4 and 1 later. Could've been a momentum turn.

- I'm not a fan of the shuffling on special teams. It might've messed up the timing of our punter. Special Teams also had two false start. They did well otherwise.

- Red Zone offense. UConn was 1-5 in the red zone. The lone TD came from Fagnano to Bell in the 3rd quarter. The others resulted in FGs. All our other TDs came from explosive plays.

Misc:

- Nick Evers with a hard count that drew a defender offsides, heady play there. Second concussion of the year so far. Kid needs to learn to slide better, faster.

- Two QB system. In a way, it worked out that Fagnano was able to get gameday reps due to Ever's injuries. Injuries is not what you want, but silver lining is that we have two capable QBs should one be out. Like today. When was the last time we could say that about UConn football. This might be our deepest team in a decade plus.

- Notre Dame. People used the transitive property to say that Buffalo was good team. Because they beat a #23 ranked NUI team that beat a then #5 ranked Notre Dame team. We now know that transitive logic doesn't work in sports. We also know that Notre Dame are cowards for not scheduling us.

- Missouri Tigers. The then ranked #9 Tigers beat Buffalo 38-0. By transitive property, not only do we belong in the top 10, but also the SEC.

How bout Joe Fagnano is right. We are different team with him hitting receivers and giving them the opportunity to make YACs. The Evers slant to Anderson that was changed to incomplete is the part of his game he needs to clean up. WR is open, should be an easy pitch and catch there for the WR to pick up big yards.

Missed the 2nd half for a family event, ut listened to first half. We have a team, we have a team that can score and win. Great effort by the players and coaches!!! Bell is fantastic, but I would hope we have a second go to WR. Still, very happy with how Fagnano stepped in to seal the win.

one of the few critiques I have is related to the post game conference, feels like im hearing Charlie Brown's teacher. Our media team can do better!
Can they?

I just think the industry is over from an attend the game, ask a question standpoint.

It was nice the punter pinned them on inside the five yard line twice. But truth be told the punting has been very poor this year.

Is it time to have an open try out for punters? There will come a time when we cannot afford a 20 yard punt.

Fagnano is also still very inaccurate and throws the wrong kind of ball at times. Lots of passes were too high, too low, behind. He threw a line drive to the corner of the end zone when a floater was needed. Our WR could never catch up to it. The long throw to Bell early in the 3rd that the Buffalo DB caught up to and swatted away had too much air. He overthrew another easy pass to a wide-open receiver that should have been a TD. I think you get my point. Fagnano is a serviceable/good QB, but he’s kinda at his ceiling. Evers brings more to the table for potential but is clearly a work in progress.

Enough with the nitpicking. Great win today!!!

The guy who won two Super Bowls in the booth today said it best on TV.

The offense runs better when Joe Fagnano is the QB.

It's unanimous.

We won by 44 points, with great special teams and pinning the opponents inside their own 5 twice, and you're complaining about it??

I was hoping for more people to show up to the game today, but the ones that were there were loud and proud. I got to meet @BlueandOG today along with his family, which was great.

Hoping we get some more butts in the seats for next week against Temple, because this team deserves it...
