Still waiting for him to make a big 4th quarter comeback. Or finish an opening drive.

Was talking to some football players last night at a party and they love Shirreffs and having him behind center. They were all saying to give them one more under Diaco and watch out. Very excited and optimistic for this team moving forward with Shirreffs and Newsome being just sophomores

Yeah, he threw some bad balls yesterday that should've been picked. Sure, he missed some open receivers and made some poor decisions.

The kid was very good yesterday. Without him that game is a blowout. Pal getting on his 2 favorite targets, the starting QB and the coaches. Like clockwork. Shireffs, Newsome, and Thomas were had good days. I'd say Newsome and Thomas were great.

I find it laughable people are criticizing BS for his performance this game. He played great. That td run was a thing of beauty and he constantly made something out of nothing on the ground. Did he make a few bad throws and a few bad reads? Yep. But please show me a qb who doesn't. Good grief.

Note to all fans -- college QBs aren't supposed to make 60 staight good throws or 60 straight good decisions. This is not the NFL, and Orlovsky wouldn't meet those standards.

No, but missing your best receiver standing alone in the end zone is fair to point out. He never looked his way and 2 seconds later was flushed from the pocket setting up the first 4th and nope.

Shirreffs played an extremely gutty, though and overall really good game.

He made some bad throws sure, but the guy is running for his life dam near every snap.

He's given me more hope for the future of UConn football than anyone else in the past 5 seasons.

Once the run works a couple times for him, it's all he does. He hasn't blown me away yet, but he's much better than anything we've had in years. Hopefully he works on his decision making

I don't know Marty. He was doing that earlier and I worried that he was getting happy feet because of our, to be charitable, porous line but he threw a couple on the run yesterday including the long play to Bloom. I still think he runs a little to much but I also saw him make a couple of really good decisions where usf delinemen dropped in coverage leaving huge holes. He took off and made very nice gains. He is a gamer. He's not Orlovsky but he's no Johnny Mac either.
So far I think bs has been far better than expectations. And he has been able to throw on the run. Just want him to use the talent around him so he doesn't keep taking hits. On a couple of his runs, Johnson was wide open for an easy 15 yards.

I do think bs had a great game. But I think he'd give all that up for a do-over on the last play on 4th down when he was sacked.

I like to give Casey the proper respect in these discussions. We had a 3 game win streak with him in a season in which we were winless until the last three games. He threw for record yardage in one of those games and he was a flawless decision maker. BS is great and I'm thrilled to have him but to say he's hands down the best since Dan O. is disrespectful. Casey was excellent and the sky was the limit with him. Unfortunately, the OL was so bad it ended his career. The fact that his life was completely changed by concussions suffered playing for our beloved Huskies, makes me a bit defensive about people forgetting how good he was when healthy and given the opportunity to play.

Tdaley's comment about our guards and center all blocking one guy in pass pro is spot on. We hear a lot about "watching the film, we'll get it corrected." but this has been going on all year. Vechery seems to be doing OK on his own so I'm putting this continuous screw up on the guards and coaches.

Casey's play was nothing shy of legendary to end 2013.

BS gives fans a reason to watch. He has no big time explosive players around him. Bloom is fine. Thomas is a possession guy. He has one small butt adequate running back. Give Sheriff LSU's backs and criticism would dampen quick enough.
Diaco is a horrible game coach. 7 seconds left in half and he calls for a pass play instead of a field goal attempt. Good call if your quarterback is named Marino or Montana. 4th and inches tries to kick long FG into a strong wind? Possible ten points off the board on plays with no chance of success. Johnson should only carry the ball inside the tackles on dive plays. But these guys are fun to watch. Fun game.

You can point out whatever mistakes you want to. That doesn't change the fact that he was terrific because he made an overwhelming number of plays for each mistake he made.

I am flabbergasted that this board, as QB-thirsty as we are, is critical of a kid who THREW FOR 370 yards and RAN FOR 100 yards.

When Diaco and Shirreffs were walking of the field to end the half, Diaco was outraged with BS for doing what he did. Pretty sure he approached and yelled, "what did I tell you?" Basically, the call was throw it into the end zone or throw it away and we would have had a couple seconds to kick a field goal. You can tell by Diaco's reaction that BS didn't follow instructions.

Al these people looking for limitations in Newsome's abilities are way off. He hasn't had the line to work with that previous greats have had. Shirreffs looks really good. He'd be exceptional with a typical Edsall level OL too.

This is dumbfoundingly shortsighted. The kid is a sophomore. 470 yards of offense. He's like #35 in the country in efficiency. He makes plays, converts 3rd downs, and hides coaching issues like getting plays in late.

he especially plays well when the yoke is taken off and he can run up-tempo no huddle(no coaching).

kid is a Baller. Stop being a hater. Enjoy it.

Yup, I was talking to an offensive lineman most of the night. Matt Peart was his name, freshman offensive lineman. Really nice kid.

Kid didn't have his best game and left a lot of points on the field. That's makes me a hater? Go ef yourself.

No, it doesn't. No more than critics of any aspect of the program makes them haters. We all have one collective goal: to see UConn football continue to improve and gain prominence. Our current coaches and players have given us reason to be hopeful. Along the way we will have plenty to debate about. Pointed comments will undoubtedly be made. That's part of the discourse.

I figure BrS has about 36 more starts before we have to worry about his place in the pantheon of UConn QB's. What I know now is that he competes hard, he impacts the game in a positive way, and I wish we had about 20 more like him.
