Bryant Post game thread

Didn’t get to see a minute of the game so going off of the box score…Solo and Alex…yikes. Did they work out before the game or were they wearing blindfolds or something?

Again, an astoundingly subpar performance from Karaban and again these threads tiptoe around the truth. He is not helping us and he has not progressed at all since sophomore year.
We don’t need Alex to be the top, or even top 4 player on this team. That’s Silas, Reed, Mullins, Ball, then Alex.

If those 4 are playing well, Stewart, Ross, Alex, one of them will be enough

Every year, Karaban slander. It was all 2023-2024 as well then he showed up when it mattered most. Jesus the board seems toxic

Look, this team is back to being able to run plays to create on offense. Their offense has gotten them some great looks in all of these game so far. That’s a great sign. The shots will eventually fall. Patience.

.-.
I’m actually encouraged by Solo. I think the shooting will progress to the mean. Every other part of his game has greatly improved. If he can just shoot 36% which is 6% down from last year, he’d still be a much improved overall player

Remember when some thought BYU was “licking their chops” to play us after New Haven?

Relax.
It’s okay to say we didn’t play well. It’s the truth, it’s not the end of the world. Everyone was very gleeful when we beat Lowell by a million, it was just a pretty poor game by most of our guys today. We can recognize that.

The people saying that are not who I’m aiming at.

It’s the ones who all of a sudden thinking we stand no chance against Illinois.

They were the same ones saying we stood no chance against BYU because we beat New Haven by 25 instead of 40.

It’s stupid.

.-.
We can play the if game all day. What IF we hung on against Arizona down 2 starters? See how dumb this exercise is?
I dont think people believe their own takes. If for some insane reason the AP poll dropped us out of the top 10 on monday the ENTIRE board would be:
"ANTI-UConn bias! This a top 5 team!"

Concerns about Solo are legit….,he has regressed big time.
Little too early to throw in the towel because he does have a beautiful stroke. Something feels off with his timing. A little bit of me thought the precision last year was too good to be true, and you just cannot look past how bad he can be defensively. He's a tough play at times for that reason. There is just something not all there with Solo - it's a little bit like Jaylen, where there is a driftiness in their awareness that just makes them stare a lot, really inconsistent in aspects of their game. Versus a kid like Silas, who is all over the court, nose for ball. It's hard to teach instincts & awareness.

This is why I appreciate a kid like Ross - he may not be a perfectly refined kid, but he's always engaged, always aware and looking for the ball.

It’s also okay to be worried about Illinois, especially if Tarris (our best player) doesn’t play again.

I agree that saying we stand no chance is silly, but I also find it somewhat equally silly for the contingent that says “it’s all good we won”. That was a pretty rough game. Not saying it has any bearing on the next, but it was no bueno.

We should have always been worried about Illinois. Nothing about tonight made me more worried. We’ve already seen this team tested. It’s not like Illinois is their first prime time test. Then I’d understand more.

I seem to be in the minority here, but even this game makes me feel good about this team. Yes, we did not have a good shooting night but we ran our offense well, we were engaged in defense, rebounded well (and they weren't a small team), had a lot of assists, and our depth was apparent.

Basically I still think they are passing the eye test.

.-.
Uconn going to have a massive home court advantage v Illini.

Should be a fantastic game. I would much rather see these top matchups instead the way it used to be. UConn should be dominant in league play.

AK is fine if he’s a complimentary piece that lets offense come to him. He should never try and generate his own offense, I mean never. Alex is a catch and shoot guy, and a cutter. His offensive game ends there.

Exactly. Nothing we see now is what we'll see in a month from now. For instance, the Eric Reibe you see now will be twice as good in 4 weeks. And we're only gonna see a better Ross every week. Smith too.
Hopefully it doesn't take 4 weeks. We have Illinois, Kansas, Florida, Texas, and Butler in the next 4 weeks.

If Reed plays we win. If we were healthy we would've run Zona off the court.

AK and Solo 2 bad games in a row. Solo actually rather mediocre all season. That’s pretty worrisome to me. I’m not worried about them not improving their shooting, they certainly will. But the shot selection is bad too often . Solo not being set off curls, and AK taking super deep 3s that are way off. Solvable, but becoming a but of a habit for both.

actually think the Illini faithful will show out pretty well at MSG and it won’t be as massive as we hope.
I agree. Im guessing 60/40 UConn. Ill be there, but dont expect an overwhelming UConn crowd on Black Friday.
