Bryant Post game thread

My takes
1. Silas D triple double was the highlight of the game.
2. Reibe getting quality time early in the season is a plus. We need Kodiak healthy.
3. J Ross brings energy.
4. J Stew starts strong and then fades away as the game progresses.
5. Congrats to Furphy on his first collegiate points. He reminded me of Chri Mullins on that drive.
6. Let's hope MSG is rocking on Friday.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone

One of my biggest fears with Hurley was giving AK too long a leash - but we just haven't had a full roster to know how he'll operate once we have Mullins/Reed back. He should be taking three shots - put backs, easy buckets off cuts and wide open threes in flow of the offense. Please, absolutely please, stop doing the weird telegraphed head fake, head down hard dribble to the awkward brick in the lane move.
It's so damn slow and he telegraphs everything. Hurley needs to get him playing like he did in the first two seasons. I'll be watching this closely once Tarris and Braylon are back.

I really hope we don't have a Kevin Freeman senior year situation where he was allowed to go away from the things he was great at to do the things he wasn't good at.

Saw exactly 0 seconds of this one. Anything worth taking away?
whatever you felt after the New Haven game probably applies to this one, except Bryant didn't make nearly as many tough contested jumpers as New Haven did. we won't know anything further about this team until Friday.

No way - Freeman had to be the guy because we had few options. We have three studs on this team. We don’t know what we have until we have all three on the floor together.

I still haven't seen Mullins play a minute of college basketball. I hope is all everything. He will probably have strengths and weakness.

Time to get Solo a psychiatrist. You could see it in his face at this point.

Alex shooting a bunch of really deep threes made no sense.

One thing that goes pretty unnoticed is how well Reibe blocks out. He get his man behind him and gets his arms out. So he is also getting rebounds for others when he is in the game.

Reibe continues to settle in at this level. Attacked mismatches confidently. Will be a very competent backup.

Demary is showing good signs of being a QB - his 10 assists would have been higher on a day we shot well.

Smith and Ross brought good defensive energy off the bench - once we get the offense in the starting lineup going, they could be guys who change the game on some nights.

Stewart cost himself a potentially good scoring day with foul trouble. But he looks like a confident shooter.

Koroma loves going up against the NEC. Suddenly he’s stronger than the other big men and he finishes some.

Furphy made a lefty runner.

Solo and AK, uh, need to pick it up a couple notches.

Just a horrible shooting nite and it is not the first time this year. Not to be to critical but bad Free Throw shooting is becoming a big concern. At times on the floor no perimeter shooting. Ball has not shown much this year, from the 3line. His defense is leaky. Reibe was very good again for the second game. AK 11 brings a lot to the game even when his shot is off. There are senior seasons that start this way. Game did lack any real excitement as late games on Sundays can Like Silas, Smith and Ross. Sometimes Ross is a little out of control. Silas NEEDS to work on FT's, he will be fouled a lot at the end of games. Game lack any real excitement by the fans. it is 4 months to Natty time. Long way to go.

We played flat. Ugly game for the basketball fan who expect pretty games from UConn 100% of the time. We are a work in progress. We are recovering from injuries, and likely will not gel for a few games after we are back from injuries. And yet, we all know we will have a good chance to win against any, and all, upcoming opponents.

1st half was decent enough, ugly 2nd half. Team played better vs Arizona, no doubt.

Alarm bells starting to go off for Solo Ball.

We won. I should know better but hopefully we're not going to get the massive overreactions since we've already seen what it looks like against top competition
We're already getting the massive overreactions, lol.

There's nothing to panic about though. Team shot like crap. Offense runs more smoothly when we have a dominant big down low, he's hurt right now. We still haven't even seen how good this team is with Mullins.

We've seen flashes (47-3 run, 20 point lead on BYU) of the same type of dominance the 23 and 24 teams showed. And again, that's without having Mullins. Let's get healthy and watch this team put it all together.

People need to relax

Yeah, it is. We can't afford a 20% shooter from three on the floor that can't play defense. Fortunately, we have options once Mullins is back. That's the nice thing about this roster, is we have plenty of options once fully healthy. We have Malachi/Ross/Mullins to rotate to keep him off the floor if he isn't producing.

Nope, and don't want to say I told you so but I was saying this all summer. You cannot have those three guys on the floor at once, it makes for the same clunky lineup we tried last year. They all have slow feet, can't defend. You become a really stationary undynamic unit with them out there. We had a full year to watch them - you don't make a drastic leap in athletecism or foot speed, or ability to stay in front of someone.

We really have 3 plus players on this team - Tarris, Silas & Mullins. Then we have role players. We won't know what we have until 2 of those three guys are back on the floor. I do think Ross can become a plus role player throughout the year, consistently brings energy to the floor.

Best lineup down the line: Silas/Mullins/Ross/AK/Tarris. Big, best defensive unit.

Great tripledub for Silas.
Nice analysis Ruffster!

Concerns about Solo are legit….,he has regressed big time.

Every coach that plays UConn game plans for AK. When that happens others, like Tarris step up. Oh. Like Mullins. Oh.

Yea it is all AK's fault./s

Ross looks good and confident, Solo looks solid attacking (admittedly didn't watch every minute) but he is off, even free throws don't look great - that's a confidence thing.

I think things will open up more for everyone once Reed and Mullins are back, but this game was a "meh" overall. Good to get the easy win and get out.
