im sure he did, by waiting he guaranteed his kid gets the job for at least a yearWonder if schools are going to start writing big penalties into contracts for retiring 0-6 weeks before a season starts. Surely he knew at some point before pre-season that he was leaving.
Curious what the sentiment here was when Calhoun did this. I was about a week into my UConn fandom and don't even think I knew this place existedPretty s____y to lock his players into playing for a different coach and the AD into being forced to let his son coach for this year.
Not if he really wanted his son to get the job. Wait until the last minute so they don't have time to do a full coaching search.Odd timing and seemingly going to sink their program. Is his son any good? Never heard of him
I can't speak for everyone else but I didn't like it when Calhoun did it either. Seemed like a "power move" with little regard for the legacy he'd leave behind. A lot of "he earned the right..." though.Curious what the sentiment here was when Calhoun did this. I was about a week into my UConn fandom and don't even think I knew this place existed
Players have a 30 day portal window now - it's different than years past. They can immediately transfer if they want to....Pretty s____y to lock his players into playing for a different coach and the AD into being forced to let his son coach for this year.
Saw on twitter he was in medical sales for years when he joined father's staff in 2017. No other experience anywhere.Odd timing and seemingly going to sink their program. Is his son any good? Never heard of him
The issue is that NIL budgets and rosters are largely locked in by this late in the season, so the transfer option is not nearly an equitable remedy for the players.Players have a 30 day portal window now - it's different than years past. They can immediately transfer if they want to....
At the time people were okay with KO taking the position. It seemed like for awhile he was the coach in waiting.I can't speak for everyone else but I didn't like it when Calhoun did it either. He's been thinking about this for a while.

Auburn's Bruce Pearl unlikely to run for Senator, but doesn't see himself coaching 'much longer'
Pearl is one of college basketball's most prominent coaches, but how much longer will he on the sidelines in the SEC?www.cbssports.com
Another successful established coach who is probably hanging it up earlier than he expected because of NIL, transfer portal, revenue sharing, etc.
Not really sure why Auburn would just hand the job to his son? Especially after a dick move like this.
Comparing this to Calhoun doesn’t make sense when Calhoun was the greatest coach in school history and a hall of famer, we would’ve hired his apprentice anyways.
Every coach in America should be on the phone with Pettifords agent today.
