Brock Out - Back to Miss. St.

A new head coach almost always brings his own assistants. Typically there is one, maybe 2 from the old staff for continuity and to show the new guys where the footballs are kept.

Thank you to Coach Brock for the past two years. Loved his energy and his passion. I think this year's defensive struggles were more due to difficultly replacing very very good DLinemen more than anything else.

Didn't we also have some injuries on the defensive front? People love to blame the scheme -- it's often the easy answer.

I agree 100 %. The defense was fine last year. The only thing that changed was the players ( 9 Starters ). We ALL knew going into this year that the D-Line was the biggest question mark. We can disagree on whether you liked the schemes or aggressiveness of Brock's defenses. However, there is no debate as to Brock's energy and passion. I will miss him. I wish him only the very best.

Got time to prepare for Army. They need to make stops. Army likes and does possess the ball.

I felt Brock brought the SEC type passion needed to compete in the higher level leagues to which we aspire and was hoping he'd stay.
Best wishes to a coach who did well here and even this year, when we lost so much from his first year, he had the defense playing better as the year went on.

Did I imagine the FAU game to end the season?

I have no reason to doubt Brock is a good coach for our level team, but .... Even beyond the defensive results this year, if you saw how much time Mora spent chewing him out after BC's long TD throw to end the first half, you were wondering before Mora left if Brock would be here next year. It wasn't pretty (either the play or the screaming).

I think so. Maybe get a couple guys back perhaps?

Got news for you. Toledo played a 3 3 5
I don't know what defense Candle preferred at Toledo and I've never been a fan of the 3-3-5 (Rich Rod ran it at WVU when we joined the BE for football 21 years ago), but one thing to keep in mind is that it won't work very well if you have undersized defensive linemen (which we have this season).

We lost Lashlee to SMU and Brock to Mississippi State. That is good publicity for our program - we graduate assistants to Power 4 jobs.
That's my quick take. From DC here to an SEC co-DC position sounds like a promotion to me. That was a Mora strong point, he developed players and coaches. And a week after the news, I think Candle has got this. That's why he took the job.

From what I've seen teams play a version of the 5-2 up front to deal with the service academy option offense. The 3 middle D lineman have to be stout and the ends have to make the right decisions. The corners have to tackle but cant get burned on the few passes a game.
