Brimah did an amazing job blocking and altering shots last night like usual. He was huge for us.

I saw a young Dikembe reincarnated yesterday. Amida specializes in blocks and alterations.

I've been saying this for awhile but being a great shot blocker is not the same as begin a good defensive player.

AB is a force at blocking and altering shots but his on man defense is weak and he attempts to block too many shots and loses position on rebounds. Not to mention his foul rate is imsane.

Great shot blocker - yes.

Great defensive player - not yet, but with tons of potential to be so.

I'm not going to get on him for fouls, especially over-the-backs given how the refs are calling things. They let people barrel into a UConn kid who has position, but if Brimah reaches over a guy without touches him, it's a foul.

Brimah has apparently been cursed with long arms.

Brimah is admittedly not a good rebounder, but his problems sometimes get overstated, particularly after a game like that. For starters, he played only fifteen minutes - of that time, he managed to block eight shot attempts, and unless you're Bill Russell, you're likely not going to block and rebound the same shot. So when you combine his blocked shots with made Tulane baskets, how many shots did he actually have the opportunity to rebound? Even the shots he doesn't block, he often alters, but at the expense of being out of position for a rebound - he'll have to improve in choosing when to stay home and when to help, but generally, you would prefer your center altering a shot rather than being in a position to take the ball out of the basket.

Saying things like, "one rebound in fifteen minutes is unacceptable for the biggest guy on the court" is lazy analysis unless you're watching the film and finding specific plays where he hurt us.

Was going to say this. He hasn't been able to defend a big how has an offensive game. Moving his feet and not using his hands has been a problem. Leaving his man to go for or get a block he's mastered. When it results in a block great. When it doesn't we pay for it with an offensive rebound for the opposing team.

He's a phenomenal shot blocker but I'd like to see him grabbing some more rebounds. Some of our most energizing plays are when a Brimah block leads to points for us in transition.
Maybe, Ollie needs to give up on Brimah blocking shots and then rebounding. Brimah should go after all shots in the lane and then let the other four guys hunt down the rebounds and blocked shots. If he can stay on the floor 35 minutes game shutting down the rim and catching lobs, that would make us a lot stronger team..

That's been a problem the last couple of games.
Which is why we have to stop posting him. He seldom scores on a post. Save all fouls for in the paint blocking and altering shots.

saying brimah isn't a great defensive player is mind boggling. he is our anchor when he's on the floor. moves tremendously side to side on pick n roll coverage. he might not have done it in a game or two, but still. the guy barks orders from the backline

I hate to say this James. But he barks more orders from the sidelines. Great defensive players know how to stay on the floor. Great defensive players know when to go or stay home. Great shot blockers are Brimah.

Sorry James, he's not a "great" defensive player he's a great shot blocker. He's a decent overall defender I guess considering how young he is to the game but he certainly makes the same rotation mistakes night in-night out. Hopefully he will love up to your billing at some point and move his feet better when people are driving by him, but for now while I'm happy he's ours, there's a lot of work to do for him as well as Facey if our program is to get back where it expects to be.

He needs to block less shots and stay with his own man more. When he doesn't get the block he leaves a wide open opportunity for an offensive rebound and an easy put back. He'll get a better feel for when to do what as he gets more experience.

Brimah has so much to learn about basketball it hurts.

He is an athletic freak with a high motor, but he doesn't have much fine motor skill.

He has no offensive presence at all except for ally oops, which leaves us playing four on five on that end.

Some of this would be mitigated if he could pass, but that usually turns into an adventure.

Brimah needs 2 more years of daily training in the fundamentals. In the meantime, celebrate the baby steps is about all we can do as fans.
