Brianna Turner Verbals to Notre Dame

That's a huge pick up for the Irish. I can't help but wonder if Griner's comments really did impact her decision. I had her in Waco.

I think it probably had more to do with the release of McKinney and Patterson.

I will give Skylar Diggins props for helping kick start ND's recruiting. She was a face of the program whose reach went beyond WBB fans in a way Ruth Riley's never did. It made ND a marquee program in a way even the 2001 NC did not. Time will tell as to whether ND can win another national championship, but they have gotten some elite recruits, now outside of their traditional geographic reach (Indiana and Chicagoland).

ND continues to apply pressure in the talent arms race. UConn continues to lead in that category, but Turner is someone who just might become a superstar at the college level.

Only because Hartley was injured. She would have came off the bench if Hartley were healthy...
But Bria came back in game 3 but Breanna continued to start until game 10. Doty started coming off the bench, I believe, until Geno began starting her again, citing a stagnant offense or something.

Of her Final Five I was hoping she'd pick Stanford just to keep them competitive after Chiney left...But great get for ND!

Add BG's comments to the fact that Mulkey has released two assistants, and will possibly be losing a third. Mulkey has apparently created a mess that may have ruined her chances with Turner.

I am very disappointed in the way the Griner situation was handled and this may be the punishment. I'm having a hard time being supportive of Mulkey and Baylor at the moment.

Other than Griner and Sims.... what elite Texas players have stayed in state in the past 5-7 years ??

.-.
When did she express an interest in ND? Thought it was down to Baylor and Duke.....
That was only according to Mike Siroky, who is basically a 'publicist' for the SEC, so I have no idea why he was weighing in on this situation, as no SEC teams were in her final 6 (Baylor, UConn, Duke, Notre Dame, Stanford and Texas). She just visited Notre Dame in late April (per tweets from Taya Reimer).

Nice statement in the announcement by Turner.
I doubt this was anything negative related to Baylor - ND like Duke and Stanford has a certain cache as a school outside of the athletic department so when someone chooses them it is usually a reflection of a positive with ND and not a negative regarding another school.

I agree, however most highly ranked recruits are looking for an opening to start as a freshman.
I accept the idea of many, don't know about most and certainly believe that is not the case with the kind of kids Geno wants. If a kid is more concerned with starting right away they are likely to put themselves and their personal goals ahead of team. That is not the right fit for UConn and Geno is better off without them unless they can fit.

I'm sure keeping her sexuality a secret has Kim in the hot seat, because if it was public, the board of trustee's would never have allowed her admission based on the religious standards of Baylor. KMs creditability is ruined, I would think those at the helm feel she cant be trusted and the trickle down effect... in the eyes of the school and alums. I'm sure Kim's in the hot seat. This isn't over yet.

And let's face it, Muffett is a great coach and the three wins over UCONN after the loss of three top players only made her look even better.

The 2014 season will be very interesting if UCONN doesn't land a top big. Turner will have the physical talent to match up with Stewart, Tuck and Reimer could be a fairly equal match-up and Lloyd is super talented and probably a bit better than Jefferson.

Congrats to Turner and they've got Reimer too. Good get for ND. Now UConn may have some competition in the FF in a few years. Many of you are concerned that ND is going to win a NC. I'm not concerned. Most likely they will have to go thorough UConn and if they do that wont happen for a few years yet. For the next 2 years UConn should walk right through another NC unless we have to many key injuries. If we get Wilson we may be looking at a lot more NCs. Don't forget it takes a couple of seasons for bigs to develop. Breanna is the exception. Many kids will be looking at UConn in their future. The AAU circuit already knows UConn and what they've done. After this coming April when Geno and UConn break the record of 8 wins more kids are gonna want to come to UConn. Understand UConn is attracting a lot of top AAU players. Right now we're loaded. Bria and Stef graduate this season so more kids coming up will find it attractive to play at UConn and travel and win Championships. We are Number 1 and will remain number 1 because of what Geno has built over the past 20 years. Its going to take a lot for other coaches to catch up to him especially when he has a 20 year lead.

By the time Turner and Reimer get some college time under their belts Stewart and Tuck will handle them confidently. Its Turner and Reimers Junior and Senior years where they might bring a NC to ND. The big IF will be who does UConn have for bigs? Im not worried as Geno has proven he can develop his bigs. Right now UConn needs Wilson and somebody from one of the next 2 classes. Im confident we will be fine. The 3 losses to UConn this season were a direct result of inexperienced freshman and injuries. You saw what happed to ND in the FF when UConn was healthy. As great as ND was the past 4 seasons UConn won 2 NC an ND won none. Everybody knows no matter how many top kids they get, no matter how good their team looks they still have to go through UConn. When you guys are worried about losing a player remember that and also remember we wont get every great player but we will get our share and that's all we need.

Great pick up for the Fighting Irish.

Should make the ACC race very interesting.

KML will be a senior; she's pretty good. I'll take Stewart the junior (FF MVP) over Turner the freshman.

Lloyd was better than Jefferson this year. I think we might revisit that statement in a few years.

According to an Irish fan I correspond with, Mike Siroky "is a small-time hack who use to cover ND for a local rag. His handle at NDNation is NTGD."

Just passing along what I heard.

  • Reed to Texas
  • Shanay Washington (before her ACL tears wast top 10) to Baylor
  • Courtney Williams (Hoopgurlz #10) went to TAMU
  • Karla Gilbert (Hoopgurlz #9 and top rated post player in her calss) to TAMU
  • For 2015 two top 10 players have committed to Texas: #7 Higgs and #8 Hosey
  • Griner to Baylor
  • Sims to Baylor
  • McCowan will most likely stay in state as well. She certainly has her pick of Baylor, Texas or TAMU. She is seen at a lot of Baylor home games so I think we will see her in a Baylor uni.
However, your point is well made, as the top 5 rated players from Texas are leaving the state consistently.
  • Turner to ND
  • Caldwell to UCLA
  • Jefferson to UCONN
  • Jones to Duke
  • Forthan (although a bust) to LSU
  • Amber Orrange to Stanford
  • Ogwumike x 2 to Stanford
  • Bone to USC (although she returned to TAMU)

I had no idea that Orrange was rated so highly coming out of high school. And please please please dont refer to the University of South Carolina as USC ;) You had me confused for a second.

Lloyd, Reimer and Turner. How about Stewart, Tuck and Chong. Unless you weren't paying attention, Morgan will be one of the best power forwards in women's college basketball. Wait till Chong gets acclimated. She'll surpass Mo Jeff like she was standing still. Her skill level is off the charts. She has the size advantage, shooting advantage and rebounding advantage over Mo Jeff. Just wait and see. Also, her court vision is incredible.

Why do we need to cut down one of our own players to make a point about Saniya? We are incredibly lucky to have such a quick twosome next year.

Lets not discount Mo Jefferson just yet. I think all of us are going to see a major improvement with Mo this year. She should be the starting point guard for the next three years. This is not to say Chong is not going to be very, very good. I see Chong as more of a shooting guard and backup to Jefferson.
