Thanks- I knew someone would clarify- still mystified why that group didn't do better- and didn't Geno want Harper? I wasn't paying close attention back then
They were lucky to win one.

Maryland has a tough team and a very good coach who tries to get the best out of her players. Frese has been to FF's and has won a NC . So she is no rookie at pressure games. I look for a good and tough game. If the Terps are within 10 in the 4th quarter they could be trouble. They have a space eating center in Brionne Jones and good perimeter players with talent. And they have got size. Morgan will have her hands full in the paint with Jones. The BIG difference that I see is they have NO ONE to match up with Stewie..... If Stewie brings her "A" game , UConn wins going away.

HGN- - - Brenda Frese TALKS a good game but she comes up short in big games!
With her title in 2005 she was blessed with Jeff Walz as her top Asst., he left the next year for the L'ville job and great success of his own!
I hold onto my wallet whenever Frese comes on the screen as she is so slimey!
When she got the Minnesota HC job back in the early 2000's she said at the press conference "this is my Dream Job, MN will become a great team!" then after 1 or 2 years at MN she took the MD HC job and at that presser she said, This is my Dream Job and I look forward to making MD a powerful program!"
Her pre-game psych talks are legendary for her bluster and outlandish remarks!
Remember after the last time she lost to UCONN & Geno with 2 players out, KML & Tuck, her presser comments that if Geno loses another AA player he might have to really learn to coach his team!
She has to have great Assts. as she's a great recruiter, but a lousy game time coach!
MD hasn't faced a defense like UCONN throws at opponents, they'll shut them down for 40 minutes!
UCONN by 25 to 30 points!

I'm sure Brenda Frese was joking when she made that comment before the Comcast Center game two years ago. Has Geno ever say anything that rubbed people the wrong way? (I remember a comment by the announcers at last season game about Geno, the officials and Maryland trying to force fouls on UConn).

I just looked up stats on Gillespie's previous few games since UCONN will be playing MD. They sure did not appear to reflect star status as predicted by the self acclaimed expert scout who said she would be an AA and early WNBA pick. I believe he also stated she was a much better talent than Collier. Where is he now to offer his expert analysis of Gillespie's play so far?

Now talking trash about A college freshman you have no shame

Gillespie avg 10.2 points per game in only 19.2 mpg

Read the post . I said the previous few games. Secondly I did NOT talk trash about a college player. I was jabbing a previous commentator who said Gillespie would be much better than Collier but we have not heard from him . Are you his new spokesperson?

Kiah is by any measure doing fine as a Freshman, albeit on a team which has played a very easy schedule to date. She did not start in Maryland's last "tune up" against Maryland Eastern Shore where they produced their highest margin of victory is school history in a rousing 106-30 tune up for their match with UConn. In this "contest" she scored 9 points and collected 6 rebounds.

And how is Collier doing?

And how is Collier doing?

On a better team, she's doing better. Wait, did she start the last 2 games? Maybe I dreamed that? As soon as she learns that modulating the speed of hers gives her more options she will be scary. Takes a while.

PS. Where is the wry comment emoticon? ;-)>

The bus driver knows the game is in New York City, right?

You seriously want to start comparing numbers when you look at the opposition in the 11 games MD has played to date? Only 3 rated by one service at better than 200. Collier has amassed her numbers against let's see....4 of the 9 games were vs. TOP 25, which included 2 top 10 match ups. And Kiah played against how many teams from where in the rankings? She may turn out to be a great player, but stats inflated playing weaker teams will not impress WNBA scouts. I think we need to see what she can produce against top tier programs.

.-.
Last year another very talented wing player (similar to Kiah) came into UCONN with like fanfare and bravado from many poster who had pre-determined that Geno made a mistake in not recruiting her. Sierra Calhoun left UCONN scoreless in 30 minutes of play and her team lost by 31 points. While I wish Kiah well I'm not sure her numbers will be much better (actuality can't be any worse) than Calhoun's or that MD will be within 31 points of UCONN on Monday.

I just finished looking over Maryland's team stats. I was a little concerned about UConn playing them on Monday--out of respect for their FF and such. Kiah is their 4th highest scorer and their 5th is at 6 pts or so. After looking at the team line-up IMO they are going to struggle more than I first thought. They are weak or inexperienced at their 4th and 5th starter. (They did lose two starters from last year.) Playing the weak schedule that they did might have given them some time to coagulate, but there was no pressure to bring out the A game. I originally felt that Maryland would lose by less than 15---but, after gathering more info I think it will be more in the 20 range! Just sayin.

When statistics are used to try to prove a point one should expect said numbers to be challenged or at the very least weighted. So will MD as a team and any members of that team who are being touted as the second coming of Maya or Diana. The most telling stat I came across was that the SOS for UConn and players like Collier was NUMBER ONE. And Gillespie and MD amassed their numbers against....the NUMBER 271.....TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY FIRST. Let that echo a while.
