Braylon Mullins

He'll be coming off the bench to start the season and maybe through big east season. Stewart is much better equipped to handle BE play physically. Ease the kid in without the pressure. Plus we might keep him for 2 years instead of 1.

We'll see. I agree with you on the physical front. But it would not surprise me in the least if Mullins is your starting 2/3 from day one with Stew backing up at the 3/4 again.

With the roster what it is now, it's either Stewart or Mullins starting depending on the matchup.

Go bigger we have a frontcourt of Stewart, AK, Reed, Jr.
Go smaller we have a frontcourt of AK, Reed, Jr but Mullins joins Ball and Demary, Jr.

"Starting" is such a charged word. Doesn't really matter as much as results, matchup, and a little luck. Reed, Jr., started 1 game I think. What happens after minutes 1-5 is more critical to what happens in 1-5.

Shows more athleticism and better hops than I expected. He's no stand outside catch and shoot player. Creative offensively. The real test and question when it comes to starting at the 3 is going to be defense and rebounding. Needs to add some muscle. He'll get minutes at 2 and 3. Stewart at 3 and 4. Depending on Reibe's development, I wouldn't be shocked if either Alex or Stewart played some 5 in a small ball shooting lineup designed to crush drop coverage 5s (talking to you McDermott).

Reibe looks to me like he’s coming in ready to go… Yes he’ll get much much better the more time he’s in a UConn uniform but he’s no project.

I think Andre and Castle are the Hurley prototype in what he wants from a three. They need to be 6'4 to 6'6, athletic and can operate as a third playmaking guard while usually being the teams top one on one defender. I don't know if Mullins fits the defensive prototype (in fact, in theory I think Ross is closer to the prototype) but his three point shooting adds a potentially more explosive dynamic.

The young man can score the ball - that we all can see via the tapes.
Obviously he can score at will vs most all of the HS comp he faces, however Braylon has shown that he can score on a high level vs top end AAU opponents.
Does he need to bulk up? yeah but so don't 95% of kids entering D1 MBB.
I feel that come November 2025 he will look like a bigger body without tempering any quickness.
His release is funky but ultra quick

First I have seen of him. I see everyone is very high on him and I hope you are right. I however, am not convinced he will be starting right away. He doesn’t look BE ready to me strength wise and I am not impressed with his low release. He may struggle awhile adjusting to the college game. Nice looking player though.

The broken net in the first half of those highlights really bothered me. It’s something they can control, always make sure the nets are nice!

Small sample size but there were moments of the McDs game that have me not all that worried about his strength and defense. Dybantsa and Peterson both tried to go right at him. He picked Dybantsa clean in the open floor, and then stood him up on the block the second time. Dybantsa lowered his shoulder and Mullins didn’t budge (he scored on a spin move into a one handed jump hook - but a tough shot and he had to go to finesse over bully ball). Then Peterson couldn’t beat him and Mullins contested his step back, which was a brick.

I think he’ll be perfectly fine on that end. Won’t be perfect and he’ll have room to grow, but we are inventing problems that haven’t shown themselves as of yet.

What does 30 minutes get me?

That's up to you, but in case you seriously didn't understand my references, here's what I was referring to:
The guy said"here's 90 seconds of highlights to get you through a Saturday night" and "tell me you can look at this and not get excited about next season", to which I responded "20 minutes would have gotten me even more excited". "And he even assists on his own shot".

You see, I was saying 20 minutes of such highlights might even be more exciting than the 90 seconds. People here, including me, like to speculate on how the team will be next season don't you know?

Maybe you also didn't notice the way the video was spliced. In one sequence he drives in from screen right and passes and guess who he passed to? Himself. And he makes the layup. Imagine doing that at MSG in the Big East final!

His three's on the break will remind the older fans of Wes Bialosuknia, by the way. He was just as fluid on his shot and it seemed as automatic.

Relax, he was making a joke.

Only difference being back in the day all of Bialosuknia’s “three’s” were only two’s.

I know BM is probably a touch taller but if Reed Sheppard can be as successful as he was in college I think our boy is gonna surprise us with his output. For the record, not expecting him to shoot 50% from three lol

Was there as well and thought he played well - and hey, could the Barclay's center opened another food venue? That was pitiful.

I'm going to suggest that "BM" is probably not the ideal shortened version of Braylon Mullins. Those initials already have a meaning. Just saying.

Yeah, I know it's highlights and it's against high schoolers, but tell me you can look at this and not be excited about next season.

Yeah. But it's likely to be his last. Has that one and done look from here. But thrilled that even if he is only here for a season it will be a great blessing to the team and overall program. Another job well done by Coach Hurley and staff.

Braylon's last game of HS will be livestreamed here soon:

Girls game went into double OT so it's starting later than 7:30est
