Not live, have you?U haven’t seen him play huh ?
My phone sends me the daily (most days more than one) hype pieces about Scheyer and "his crew" and their recruiting targets. Can't hurt. Still not a recruitment I feel uber-confident about. Durham-bound.
There's lots of NIL money at some of these schools and growing angst at the others so this is a pretty formidable group against which we're competing.
As much as Providences??UConn is still there while three others are out.
I still UConn has at least even with UK, and Duke and I think higher up than either. Still not a given but I like UConn chances as much as anyone else
While all of that was true, the counterpoint is that UK’s first choice for their coaching opening was Hurley. For a reason. This point from Field of 68 this morning is new info to me and possibly relevant recruiting Mullins
- Last season, Kentucky shot 24 3-pointers a game. Mark Pope’s BYU’s team attempted 32 a game, second-most in D-I. The goal for this season’s Wildcats team? 35. Yes, 35. No power conference team has ever attempted that many per game. It’d the most since 2018-19.
If you are a 47% shooter from 3, your good friend is on the team, it's 2 hours from home, a brand name school with NIL, and the style of play will showcase your best attribute, ..... I'd call that an uphill battle. I will be very impressed if Hurley were to overcome these hurdles and get Mullins to be a Husky. Indiana has a relationship with him for years and also checks some of the boxes, but likely is falling behind by losing Moreno, play style, and coaching chops. I think he would be great for us.
Yeah…and would be an NBA coach for one of the most prestigious franchises in the league today had he not turned it down. While all of that was true, the counterpoint is that UK’s first choice for their coaching opening was Hurley. For a reason.
Who LeBron wanted to coach him and develop his son. Which speaks volumes about what the best player in the past 25 years thinks about Hurley’s ability to develop NBA talent.Yeah…and would be an NBA coach for one of the most prestigious franchises in the league today had he not turned it down.
As we all know recruiting is wacky with lots of angles. None of us know what Mullins is thinking. Maybe he wants to get away from home. Maybe he doesn't like playing with Moreno. Maybe he doesn't like Mark Pope. As with most recruitments it's really hard to figure out what a kid is thinking. I agree it's a long shot just with how many schools are involved but none of us know what Mullins is thinking. This point from Field of 68 this morning is new info to me and possibly relevant recruiting Mullins

Maybe UK lands Jasper Johnson first and that turns him off. Hurley recruits with intention, and it has to feel good when you’re a recruit and you are being targeted for fit, not just playing the field. As we all know recruiting is wacky with lots of angles. Coach him? Nobody coaches LeBron. Yes, he probably wanted Dan Hurley to develop his son.Who LeBron wanted to coach him and develop his son. Which speaks volumes about what the best player in the past 25 years thinks about Hurley’s ability to develop NBA talent.
Be his head coach? I think that’s splitting hairs. The point here is that he wanted Hurley to be on the bench and trusted him with his son. Everything else is noise. LeBron, the Lakers, and KU all wanted Hurley. Recruits should too if they’re wise.Coach him? Nobody coaches LeBron. Yes, he probably wanted Dan Hurley to develop his son.

The article is wrong, he attempted over 7s per game, but made 3.5 a game at 47%.Here’s a nice write up on Mullins’ summer play. He made an impressive 6+ 3’s per game but what’s nice to read about is Finkelstein’s scouting report on the defensive end.
He knocked down 47% of his attempts from three in 3SSB play, even on high volume, making 6+ threes per game.
The other area of the game in which Mullins is a true standout is on the defensive end. He's quick laterally, very active with his hands (1.4 steals per game), and competitive with a scrappy mentality. He's also not afraid to stick his nose into traffic and pull-out some rebounds, on both ends of the floor (3.6 rebounds per game).
The bottom line is that when you have an elite shooter, capable of getting hot at any point, who is also a standout defender, with positional size, solid athleticism, and a competitive mentality….you have an elite national prospect.

Good points. I think in general our fanbase currently is ridiculous in thinking these recruits either come to Uconn or they must be nil hungryAs we all know recruiting is wacky with lots of angles. I certainly don’t think they all are - but there are a few things, when they play out, where you’re pretty damn sure NIL is the driver.Good points. I think in general our fanbase currently is ridiculous in thinking these recruits either come to Uconn or they must be nil hungry
there are alot of reasons i wouldnt fault a recruit
1)future Pt at Uconn- will I be featured like at <insert school>
2)regimented playing style. Been around alot of high level players who wanted to play free flowing and were adverse to excessive x and o's
3)storrs,ct vs warmer, larger colleges (yes, I know the Ray Allen quote)
I think Hurley getting the right kind of guy will adapt their attitude from "me to we". Not sure 5 stars always want that
Will we ever know why they decide what they decide?Good points. I think in general our fanbase currently is ridiculous in thinking these recruits either come to Uconn or they must be nil hungry

We totally need a Hard Knocks of this stuff - make it happen NetflixWill we ever know why they decide what they decide?
If they don't like something about a school that recruited them, why would they knock that school and then have to face the derision from the fans of the rejected school, if the two teams should meet up later.
And, if the reason is the coach's personality, or the weight of the cash bag, ditto for the above.
Kids being kids though, they may leak it out, but usually their handlers try to thwart a revealing tweet or interview.
Kids have a right to choose for whatever reason.
You are in imminent danger of finding out about his credibility! Not sure how credible Zanetto is or his contacts are but had a blurb on his pod today that his Midwest contact with IU ties said there is no way Mullins is leaving the Midwest.
For a long time I hadn't been hearing anything about 'home visits' with recruits and all of a sudden it has come up a couple times this week including with Mullins evidently thursday. Additionally, all of a sudden multiple coaches are being simultaneously invited to 'open workouts' for a player as part of the recruitment, (Thomas, Burries). Is that a new 'thing'? We used to focus on getting a home visit to line up an official visit, and now it is the other way around?

It's also partly due to recruiting calendar. Today is the first day of the "recruiting period" aka contact period that lasts most of the school year. We were mostly in dead + quiet periods in August and dead+live in July. Those periods don't allow coaches to go visit players at their home or school (Live lets them see them at an event, Quiet lets the recruits come on visits to college but not vice versa).Home visits were more common when there were more limits of visits.
I think now it's mostly for when kids are sick of traveling to go on OVs, honestly.
