Braylon Mullins is Back!

when was the last time we had a 20ppg scorer? Mullins will be there this year.
Bouknight, and while I love a dude who can score in buckets I like having a well rounded squad more.

I never understood why Liam left
I've always thought it might have been a bit ego driven. He was #2 to Cooper Flagg on Monteverde and seeing all the attention Flagg got, wanted to show he was an NBA player too. Just my speculation. Given that he had an injury and was up and down in his one year at UConn, I thought it was a mistake then and still do now.

Probably wasn’t pushed as hard to stay. Hurley usually will tell a player when he thinks they should stay/leave as seen with Clingan, AK and now Mullins. It doesn’t hurt that next year’s freshman draft is much weaker too.

The game he had against Creighton was possibly the best individual game we had at UConn in several years.

Karaban vs. UCLA, Reed vs. Furman, Castle's huge game in the tourney, Sanogo v Creighton, Sanogo v. Alabama, Sanogo v. St Marys, Sanogo v. Miami are the only other ones I can think of that compete.

Liam was ready from a physical standpoint. His shooting wasn't ready. He shot poorly from 3 this year in the G league, but not a large sample.

Even at CT, Liam's 3-pt game wasn't good enough. Too much variance even before the ankle injury. He got bad advice from someone to leave early.

@Mister Wonderful Sorry my post brought you displeasure or confusion. To clarify it for you, because I thought my post was innocuous, I was not taking credit for the shot, but expressing how I felt and how happy I was that in both instances it came to be. I told my son to look for Mullins to take the last shot. By the most unlikely circumstance he actually got the shot and I was shocked and awed that it went in, just as everyone else was. Also pleasantly surprised he is returning. Perhaps you dislike that Mullins is returning and wants to go out on his terms as a champion?

Bouknight had one monster game against I believe Creighton as well

Also NIL has grown substantially year over year. It felt big last year. It feels huge this year. Nearly every mock had him going in the teens.

I accept your apology with that amazing clarification.

He definetly made a pact with his classmates to go into the draft together he was leaving no matter what.

Smart move.

“He’s not ready physically,” one NBA exec told ZAGSBLOG before his announcement. “And next year’s draft isn’t as strong. This year’s Draft is full of very good shooters.”

Jonathan Givony of Draft Express Tweeted: “Smart move by Braylon Mullins to return for sophomore season. Rated No. 27 on my board. Shot 34% from 3 and didn’t impact the game enough in other areas — 3.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.0 steal, 1.1 FTA per game. Needs to get stronger and more versatile on both ends.”

There needs to be a major emphasis on improving his handle. If he does he will be so tough to stop from doing anything he wants to on a basketball court.
Put on Baseball Mitt for the summer.

People often trash the NIL era– and not without good reason- but this never would have happened pre-NIL. Now let's go 4 years like Karaban!

Hopefully after this season posters will let a season play out instead of just screaming "lottery/one and done" when others say pump the breaks a bit. I'm not even one of those guys who say everyone needs to comeback and stay but between his play and watching the other freshmen/underclassmen it became pretty clear that he wasn't ready yet and 2027 would probably serve him well.

Braylon and his Family made a smart decision. Playing the long game. Get Braylon 100% healthy. Work on SnC in off season for more strength/explosion. Knows what to expect with physicality of CBB after Year1. Tighten the handle. And let it rip. Money will follow.

I'm thinking he might make more money in the long and short term by staying. Viewers are going to see The Shot II every game next year. Probably more than once. That will add to his value, especially with all the high profile games UConn will be playing. Outside casual fan knows he can shoot, how many have seen his putback dunk? I'm guessing Mullins wouldn't start next year in the NBA. So when they replay The Shot as he comes off the bench as the game is streaming on League Pass, it wouldn't have the same impact.

“We didn’t really talk about it, didn’t want to take his mind off the Final Four,” his father, Josh, told CT Insider on Sunday. “You make the Final Four your first year, the bright lights, it’s awesome. It’s like, ‘Let’s do it again.’”

“I think he already had his mind made up of what he had to do,” Josh reported. “It wasn’t anything I had to talk him into. He just said, ‘I kinda think I need another year.’”

His father also says Braylon was never completely healthy this season.

“The goal now is to get himself healthy, get stronger,” Josh said. “He knows the routine, the regimen. Last year he didn’t understand it. It was tough, being away from home. Every kid in America gets better each year. I think it’s more the maturity/confidence piece. One more year at UConn would help. Another year for maturity reasons, confidence, seeing the game again.”

Inside Braylon Mullins' decision to return to UConn for another year: 'Let's do it again'

What are our guesses for his ppg and 3%?

17.4 ppg, 41% from 3 is my guess.

Looking forward to seeing the improved d. He’d get beaten a decent bit, but he didn’t give up on plays.

So happy this kid is coming back. To see the box scores begin to match the talent will be exciting to see!

Sounds about right. 17 and 3% 38-41.

How would he know? No one but the Mullins knew. I’ve list love for Donny as he is so open to prove he has no UConn bias. But he can repent and earn my respect again. But to his credit, how would he know?
How would Donny know whether Mullins would leave for the NBA? By watching him play. He looks different. In Donny's defense, Mullins was certainly trending toward the NBA early in the season, but when he began to struggle shooting down the stretch it changed things. My point is Donny should not have been so adamant about his take. It didn't age well. He repeatedly said things like, "Mullins moves like an NBA player. This will be his only year at UConn so enjoy him while you can UConn fans." His mistake was being so certain. He should have said, "Mullins is trending like a one year player. He has the talent to make the jump. I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves but we will see."

I think it is also fair to say that Donny's comments were based on past history and not current trends with NIL money changing things. Again, Donny needs to learn from this mistake. It is fine to have a confident take, that's what commentators are paid to offer, but make it an informed one and leave some room to pivot as the season progresses. I never heard Donny walk back his take even as Mullins struggled late in the season.
