Yes, the O-Line under performed Thursday night, however, Whitmer also held on to the ball a little too long on some plays which caused him to get sacked. Last year Whitmer had some receivers open, but couldn't get the ball to them. Who knows, Whitmer not being able to see over the line is probably ONE of the MANY problems. That is why PP is calling for Boyle to compete and not Whitmer who is 6'0 ft.

Follow college football much? This is a classic act of desperation. Lots of teams have their second best QB with a redshirt on. If this is true, Pasqualoni is just exhausting his reserve.

Hate to see this kid lose a year behind this line.

You didn't answer my question. Would you seriously redshirt a kid you knew was better if it gave you a chance to win this year?

I have heard though the grapevine that Tim Boyle was named second team quarterback earlier today.
This could be possible. I have heard through the zucchini vine Lagow is transfering back to UCONN because of this move...

Statistically speaking Whitmer's night against Towson wasn't particularly great (i.e. 57% completion percentage) but those stats don't reflect how bad he played particularly when it came to sacks taken / created. I think the book on him is fairly well written now - accurate when he has the time to throw, can force throws into bad situations, has very little escapability in the pocket, has a ton of heart and courage and cannot throw very well on the run.

If Boyle can produce better results than Whitmer then so be it. I don't care if people think PP is acting out of desperation or not. Don't we all recognize that this fan base is as equally desperate to see this team turn things around? Replacing Hemingway with Friend won't magically make this team that much better but if we had a QB who could deliver the ball to our one strength (Davis & Phillips), I think it could make a big difference.

Win what, One game. That O line has to get straightened out or we will need a couple of back boards on the trainers cart. Good luck to whomever is under center.
Push em back, Push em back way back or did GDL forget that cheer. I think that can be used for the O line also.

Talk about rearranging deck chairs. Is Boyle going to help the running game? Or stop the other team's running game? What other guys who are expected to play can P add to the 2-deep?

If Boyle gives them the best chance
to win play him.

It's week 2, it's not like they are 3-7 and it's week 11.

He starts game 2. Better than 50/50 I say.

Pretty doubtful. If Whitmer had a horrendous first half I could see them making a change. Can't see him starting.

I doubt it has much to do with Whit at this point. Not like Pee would trout Boyle out for his first start against either of our next two opponents. My guess, Either Casey is hurt or Boyle is simply out playing him in practice.

You didn't answer mine. Do you watch college football much?

And yes, it happens all the time in many programs.

If Boyle is a better QB then put him and leave him in for the season, not for a few games. if he struggles, He will get a lot of leeway from the fans and the staff to improve as the season goes on. I don't want to see a year of eligibility wasted for just a few games or a series or two here and there, just to test the waters. The staff had the whole GD offseason to figure this out and certainly the duration of camp. My only thought is that maybe they are really starting to see something from this kid which clearly prompted the transfer of Lagow, when he thought the staff was giving the hometown kids more looks.... Maybe Boyle is really turning it on, who knows.....

IF this was P's decision I totally agree with the analysis. Rolling the dice trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Wonder if Weist is on board with playing Boyle.

As one of the guys on the board who was probably the biggest cheerleader for Tim during the recruiting process, I can see why the coaches are suddenly falling in love with the idea of seeing the guy with the best physical gifts step in and save their season. They're desperate. We're desperate.

Please NO! Not until the o-line shows it can establish the run and pass protect. I consider Boyle central to our future, but he's a true freshman with zero experience. He doesn't have a single spring practice behind him. Do they expect him to scramble like Johnny football?. If Whitmer isn't the guy you need to go with Casey and give him a chance to lead the team. Boyle may look good for a few throws but the LAST thing we need to see is Tim being carried off the field because of poor protection or just a lack of experience or trying to do too much.

Before we start Boyle we need to end GDL - Period.

If the report is true, this might just simply be a move to light a fire under both Cochran and Boyle's rear ends. Gets them both to practice harder; one because he just earned something, and the other because he lost something...

I hope you're right but I don't trust it.

I don't think it's really that complicated. Boyle is better than Cochran. Therefore if they need a second quarterback he plays.

I don't even think it's because P's time is running out.

Let someone besides Whitmer take a few snaps. Let Someone besides McCombs take a handoff.
And yes, Dracula is horrible with the redshirt scenarios all around.

More QB attrition to come, then?

Agree and he still has Kivon Taylor sitting in the red-shirt wings if they do.

I've heard PP secretly took the GED for Logan Marchi so he could graduate immediately and be on the active roster for Maryland.

He almost pulled it off but failed miserably after writing his final essay on how excited he was to see what the game of football would look like in 1986.

This is a fact I wouldn't post it if it wasn't the truth.

Let the best players play whether they are true freshman or fifth year seniors.

If the offensive line is the issue, wouldn't it make more sense to play Taylor at QB?

PP is so dumb.

That is my take, too. Consistent with the reports from camp almost since day 1. I've always assumed that if we made a qb change for any reason other than mop up duty, it would be to Boyle.
