Lomachenko is just amazing. Love that this fight was at MSG and on ESPN.

Great fight and win for Loma. 3 division titles in 12 pro fights is unheard of.

Great scrap. Linares dropped Loma and it was a competitive fight throughout.

Competitive is a bit of a stretch. Linares had his moments but Loma was picking him apart. The scorecards were a joke btw.
I don't think so. What were the punch stats last night? They had to be closer than any recent Loma opponent. He also dropped him.

No....it was close by my eyes and the judges had it one for Loma and one for Linares, third judge had it tied at the time of the tko.

It was pretty close, I knew Loma was going to win but with the knockdown it was close. Linares acquitted himself really well, Lomachenko just outclasses everyone in boxing.

The kd helped on the scorecards a bit but how many rounds id Linares win besides that 10/8? one? maybe two?

I hadnt watched any boxing in a long time but tuned into this fight on a whim and glad i did. That liver shot to win was so fast and so precise it was scary.

Just as with the Mayweather-McGregor fight last summer, I'd heard of neither boxer until reading this post. I got to stream the ESPN replay on Monday morning. Thanks for the heads up.

Also streamed replay of Celtics-Cavaliers, maybe my first full NBA game of the year. Good stuff.

You weren’t aware of the existance of Floyd Mayweather?

That’s pretty impressive. Kudos.

The greatest boxer of the last generation although not a heavy and people who like sports haven’t heard of him.
My mother and Italian Grandmother ,and every other American knew who Joe Louis was. The same for Marciano and especially Ali
Boxing today sadly is just a small niche sport .

Boxing is a niche sport. Mayweather is still a public figure.

Yeah he’s not as famous as Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano.

By that standard Derek Jeter wasn’t famous.

Thanks.
The purpose in posting was to showcase my ignorance, as well as my appreciation for having my attention called to something worth my time.
My boxing resume is pretty much limited to Heavyweights from Cassius Clay through Hollyfield and the 1980s hey day in other weight classes with Arguello, Pryor, Duran, Leonard, Hagler, Hearns: certainly not a bad time period to have watched in realtime.
I did make it a point to visit The Muhammad Ali Center on the champ's final birthday 1/17/16 and will go to his boyhood home where my ex-wife did some restorative painting & Cave Hill Cemetery where he is at final rest the next time I go to Louisville. It's enough for me to forgive myself not knowing Mayweather.

for the folks just getting back into boxing one of the best cards on paper so far this year takes place tomorrow on Showtime. Split site doubleheader of Gary Russell Jr vs JoJo Diaz and Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack.

Boxing has really picked it up with the good fights in the past couple years. We've seen alot of the top fights get made.

Now Stevenson - he hasn't been fighting anyone of note but this should be a good fight with Jack. Earlier I wanted Stevenson to agree to a fight with Kovalev, but now there are others at 175lbs that would be just as good: Bivol, Beterbiev to fight Kovalev.

I don’t know how old your are but yes even baseball although much bigger than boxing does not enjoy the status it once did.
I was a Yankee stadium with my Dad and Uncle back in 1956 and a guy sitting next to us was from France and although he could barely speak English he wanted us to point out Mickey Mantle.
Who had apparently reached international fame
I remember this because my uncles answer of number 7 quickly pointed out the fact that he couldn’t tell the Clevland Indians from the Yankees as he originally pointed to Al Rosen
The Indians power hitting third basemen who wore the same number as the Mick.

Mickey Mantle really wore #7? I thought that was just a bit on Seinfeld.

Yea the past 18 months or so has been great, also nice being local and having Barclays nearby since they're basically the new east coast mecca of boxing.

Yes. I'm also in the Brooklyn area like you.

And boxing is returning to Atlantic City in August with the opening of Hard Rock Casino - Kovalev. I'm thinking of possibly going....

Floyd isnt more famous because hes basically an A hole! Through his prime and height of his career he had pretty much zero endorsements. No Nike, Gatorade, Coke, videogame, Pepsi, McDonalds, or Cars which would be perfect for him since he buys so many. None would work with him because hes such a tool and the wife battering didnt exactly help. If Floyd were a with an actual personality and likeability he`d have been the first billion dollar athlete.
