The Doorly's is incredible stuff. As is Foursquare when you can find it at a decent price. Had a chance to do a tasting with Richard Seale just before Covid, he signed a bottle of the Exceptional Cask series for me. I never see Doorly's b/c I don't have TW nearby. But the other one you can find, which is also Foursquare, is Real McCoy. The 12 is very good. Love Barbados rums and never any added sugar. I like some Jamaican rums, and the Pussers is kind of a mix of Barbados with hints of Jamaican funk. Follows the original British Navy recipe.

Up in New England, Privateer in Ipswich, MA makes some outstanding rums, very much in the Barbados style.

We sell the Real McCoy but I am not a buyer at 40 abv. The Doorlys are 48, which is a good spot for rums. We have a place about 20 min from me called Muddy River that if you didnt know better, you would think it was rum made in a tropical climate. Their Navy Strength version is a total banger. And their spiced rum is actually made with real spices, you can see sediment in the bottles. Its in an old mill right on the river.

The Real McCoy I was buying wasn’t at 40. It was a 12 year partially aged in Madeira casks at 46%. I bought like 4 bottles of this. Looked for a picture and found my old review. But I agree at 40% it’s behind the Doorlys.

Yeah I dont know if that is around anymore lol. We just have the regular 12.

I haven't tried it yet. Makers is weird for me. I think the regular offering is boring as hell. Then they do these staves, which is very much mixed bag. I have a 2020 Special Edition that is pretty good. I am guessing, but I think because it's a wheater and they keep hitting it with these different oak staves, maybe it doesn't have the backbone it needs to stand up to the wood.

I have never cared for their spirit in any form. Same with all the WT offerings as well.

Not a fan of Makers as a sipper, but in cocktails it works. I've mixed in Hartford's own Wild Moon Liqueurs (either the Birch flavor or the Chai Spice flavor) with a twist of orange and it is really great, simple cocktail.
 
The Warden and I went to he North House in Avon last night (f/k/a Avon Old Farms Inn) and on Wednesdays all bourbons are half price. I had a High West "A Midwinter Night's Dram" for $8. Not sure what year it was but it was a decent sized pour in a Glencairn glass. Whisk(e)y menu is extensive and the food there is excellent too.

That's a great price on a hard to find whiskey. I used to buy the bottles when they were reasonably priced, but they are at crazy prices the last few years.

I am really hoping the current glut/downturn puts an end to some of this pricing. That should be a really nice, maybe $80 bottle, not twice that. Bookers should be $75, not $100. We've seen Eagle Rare come back down, if not all the way, and CEHT BiB too.
 
With @AreBee1969 nice affordable pour story, I thought I'd share a story. My daughter's school used to do father - daughter dances in the gym, in May. No AC, usually about 100 degrees. Nothing to drink either. One year they moved it to a country club, so there we are a few other dads and me on a balcony looking at the course. I had a beer. Another dad comes over with a big stemless wine glass full of something. I asked what it was, and he said "Scotch". This is like an 8 ounce pour. So I went over to the makeshift bar being handled by a couple college age girls and looked at the booze. Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Rye. Asked for a pour and sure enough she killed the bottle nearly filling a wine glass and apologized for it not being "full". I think it was $12.

I had never had it before and I didn't feel it was a $120+ whisky.

Here's the complete whisk(e)y list. Some oddities here. Eagle Rare and Blanton's are cheaper than Buffalo Trace? Note these are full price, so halve these prices on Wednesday. $4.50 for an Eagle Rare 10!

If I lived in Simsbury like I did in college, I'd be taking advantage. That's a great deal. Bombergers at $15 (half) I'd definitely want to try. Some excellent deals on some Scotch and Irish too (Redbreaast 15 and Yellow Spot, plus that Octomore 8.1). Tell them their Tequila options suck.
 
I had a sip of this on Sunday. I met up with a friend who was in town and we stopped in a bar for a drink. He were sitting right in front of all the bourbons. He went for an IPA on tap. He said it was his treat. I saw Blantons, Stagg, and a few other labels I recognized which I figured would go for a steep price.

So, I saw the Old Fitzgerald 7 year Bottled in Bond. Got a single neat. Was very tasty. So tasty in fact, I stopped by a liquor store on the way home to see if they had any of it. They did and I saw a price tag of $102.99. I have no idea what they charged at the bar, but I wouldn't buy a bottle of this at that price. I looked online and it seems like $85-$105 was the price range.

It's a Heaven Hill product. Again, a good pour, but I don't think it's $40 better than the the Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond offerings or several of the Elijah Craigs.

That is way inflated. I paid $55 for it and that is MSRP. It's solid at that price. A few stores have chosen to mark it up and hope people will pay.

One of last years or this years? I havent bought a Bookers since they raised the price again. It was up to like $130 here, its come back down to I think $90 now though. It used to fly off the shelf too, now there are cases stacked up.
