Bourbon & Rye

Grabbed this one at work for like $30 ( its a pint ). That second barrel adds a ton of sweetness to it. I probably wouldnt buy a full bottle but it was fun to try and have around for folks who may not want the full single malt experience.

Good stuff, and an instant buy at that price, but there is a Scotch thread.

I grabbed this budget offering today. Had the bourbon now trying the rye.

Anybody get one of the Jack Daniels Heritage barrels? I'm looking for one but haven't come across one yet.

Tried by not purchased. Its tasty stuff, worth a punt at the price. Look for some older dates, I think they are aged 7 years iirc but my buddy found an 8 year.

Snagged one at my local. Absolutely worth it in sniffing distance of MSRP.

I got one too. Very much a desert bourbon but I really like it. Became bitter with water though so I stick to neat.

One of the best values in the game right now. A single barrel of tasty stuff for under $50
With ice. After the first sip kicked my tongue in the buds, the following sips were succulent.

These, including the new recipes, are $42 at my local. I don't even bother buying things like WT 101 anymore because these are so great at that price.

I'm trying to behave and buy less this year but these are always very tempting.

I am searching for the Wild Turkey 101 8 year which is worth the upcharge over the NAS WT 101.

Never again. I bought two bottles last year. Maybe the worst bourbon I've ever tasted. Plastic jugs have tasted better. So, one bottle was a struggle to kill using it for mixed drinks. The other sits unopened on the bourbon shelf for conversation purposes never to be opened.

By the way, it is already fading but that bottle of Russell's was bought at the gift shop at Wild Turkey and Jimmy Russell himself was there thst day signing bottles. 90+ years old and his hand written signature using a sharpie on a curved glass bottle is as impeccable as the signature on the label.
He signed 3 or four bottles for us. Needless to say, they were a big hit when gifted to friends.
He chatted for Mrs Diesel for 3 or 4 minutes.
Very cool experience.

Swing by our store, we have plenty. Its in South Carolina though, so you may want to wait for the ice storm to do its thing.

I'm going to be in Louisville in mid June with a few other couples for a wedding. I like bourbon but I'm not super sophisticated on the nuances and don't really have a big interest in becoming a true connoisseur. I've already booked a little driver + tours outside Louisville for 4 couples.
  • Any "can't miss" tours in Louisville itself? With the wives, we are just as interested in a great facility as we are the liquor. I was told Old Forester is totally commercial but fun. Maybe Michter's, Rabbit Hole (heard it's nice, but not great bourbon).
  • Any restaurant recommendations?
  • Should I be looking to buy stuff at the distilleries, and if so should I bring a spare bag and bubble wrap to bring back bottles (I get free bags on flights) or is it worth it to ship?
  • Happy to hear any other tips also.
