They’ve been on the road, probably had an MRI right after getting home. If surgery (and this is all speculation informed by experience) probably a UCL tear, needing repair or reconstruction. (Tommy John surgery) This is based on the position of the elbow at the time of injury and the force applied.

The hope is always that it’s a sprain, not a complete tear, and that rest and rehab could allow recovery without surgery. And if it’s a complete tear waiting a week on the road is the least of the issues.

Why are Ray Allen and Caron on the list? Ray was amazing as a sophomore but got beaten in the tournament by a better UCLA squad in '05, against Miss. State in '06 they didn't have Ricky which really hurt but they still should've won had Ray and the team played a better game. Caron was amazing but was beaten by a better Maryland team. UConn has been just about as fortunate as anyone when it comes to tournament success and winning tournaments over the years. Injured more than anyone since the '14 title though.

AJ Price is the main injury that cost us a decent run in my opinion.

Damn, what a bummer.

Really hope he comes back this season. 2 - 4 weeks seems wildly quick to me, but I guess we really don't have any info on the injury/procedure. Eagerly awaiting the opinion of @Doctor Hoop on that timeline.
Really depends on the surgery that was done. If it’s a UCL tear (which I think is most likely based on the mechanism of injury) there is a newer technique using an internal brace that may speed return, but in many cases it’s season ending. But it really depends on what was injured and what surgery was needed.

i expect james to return soon, as the weather warms up. mid to late february by my way of thinking. yet, on the udder hand, given his character, age, the 'off' hand impact to his offense, and the reasonable expectation that there isn't a nerve kablooie component, or a bone chip curveball, it may just be
20 minutes.
sophmores are made of rubber bands mostly, and given what we've seen from him in response to various whackings, he may be the rubberbandiest guy on this squad.
chillax james, kick back, fatten up, and get strong soon. mebbe work on ur beard game a bit. rj can help. we got this, for now.

If I’m part of the Horde, I’m pi***d. They were given no indication of any issues, nevermind SURGERY during Monday’s post game. Now I see out of nowhere a National writer has this scoop about Bouknight and surgery and he says Hurley told him?! Where’s the transparency to the local writers who cover this team as their job??

On tothe topic at hand - Bouk - it very well could be a quick scrape and clean or it could be a ligament repair. That's 3 weeks vs 3 months. Who knows. I only hope he heals and comes back when he is ready
It's time for DH to get down to brass tacks and really coach these kids - set up some offense and be smart with his lineups. Earn those millions and do some magic.
He has some really good pieces but they need to fit in the right order and within the best rotation
I know one thing - the two headed beast of Cole and Gaff in there together will never work
I think this team could fool some people without Bouk
A leader has to emerge - who? I'm thinking Whalley
Its going to be fun
My best to Bouk on a speedy recovery. To the team -it's your time take advantage of the opportunity

on the side - if Bouk comes back next year, got to hope that doesn't have any influence on Hawkins possibly relooking

Did Hurley not know about the surgery when he did Goodman's podcast? Said he was going to see a specialist, not that he has seen one. Is it possible he went from the exam directly to surgery?? Hurleysaid out a couple more games, if at all...He didn't sound overly concerned, joking with Goodman at the outset of his segment.

If he can come back healthy, he will come back… There’s no way he’s gonna leave his team out there, these guys are a band of brothers and they want to make the tournament

I went 60 days totally booze free last December- early March. Started as a challenge to see if I could go a week and then I kept pushing it out. I felt like a million bucks by the end of week 3 and was sleeping like a baby. Then, once I hit 60 days I immediately reverted to my old ways. Stick with it.
I did 105 days between November '19 and the February Hockey Game vs. UMass. Getting through the first weekend is the worst part. Not so bad after that. Even through the Holidays.

Dyson in 09’. That was the best UConn team ever until Dyson went down. They were playing flawless basketball. Just beautiful.

Yeah, but Dyson wasn’t our best player. AJ the year before was a bigger blow in my opinion. Best player and PG, you can’t recover from that.

This is a crappy season for it to be one's last. Rest up. Come back next year. Hang a banner. Put a #2 on the Huskies of Honor.

I am always reminded of Kenyon Martin and Cincy in 2000. That is bad luck.

Few questions here. If it’s a complete tear he becomes almost undraftable and will likely return right? What’re we looking at like 9 months of rehab after reconstruction? How much does the fact that it’s the non shooting elbow even matter here?

Not sure if we'll get any clarity soon on the type of surgery. I think Hurley will just dodge the questions.... saying he can't comment.

Trying to stay on the positive here. Although it has noting to do with Bouk and are team, didn't Hurley deal with something very similar one of his years at URI. The leading scorer went down and the rest of the team stepped up in a big way. (No idea who or when this was, but I remember reading about it)

My thoughts need structure I know, but this could be a huge moment for Hurley and this team

Too little info to speculate more than I already have. It does help that it’s the non shooting elbow - but the greats use both hands equally, and rebounding and defense are going to stress it more than shooting.

Elbow injuries are challenging.

They swell more than any other joint. Likely they saw something on MRI but were not sure if it was clinically significant with all his swelling.

Fast forward a week, swelling has gone done and a clinical exam is more feasible.

I have to remind patients all the time that I do not treat the image (X-ray, mri, ct) but rather the patient.
Would it be likely that the team wanted to wait a week and see how the injury progressed and if it'd heal on its own (more short term) before deciding on a more long-term approach of surgery? That would seem to explain why the decision wasn't made until today.
