Borges confirmed: Hass is staying

I could be wrong but my memory of him trying to finish in '23 was that he'd be pretty out of control driving to the basket especially in transition where he'd end up 5 feet behind the backboard after he put up the lay up. In '24 it felt like he was able to drive hard but then actually be under control for the shot itself which led to a lot less of just chucking it off the backboard and hoping.

Re: his 3 point shot, I remember earlier in the season that Hurley mentioned it as a point of focus last summer for Hass to fix his shot by flattening it out a little bit. I never went and compared, but I assume if you put his '23 and '24 shots side by side, you'd see '23 was too high arcing.
I recall the same regarding his drives from '23.

Early 22-23 season he gave me some headaches but he did finish much better as the year went on. Now he’s pretty automatic.

Kimani worked with him individually all summer. He was really hard on him, but look at the results...
We went to a lot of A&M games his last year there and watched most of them (mentored another player), he’s a totally different guy and more team-oriented vs trying to prove self. Kudos to Kimani. What a year Hass had, prob natl sixth man of year if not v close. Just a rock for us!

This is a great point - I think it finally convinced me he should be next year’s starter
Love Hass, and think he wins the starting job. Regardless would love to see him prove his 3 point shooting % is sustainable at a higher attempt rate and develop a mid range floater / jumper that cam and Steph both had this year. If he does that he could be one of the best guards in the entire country next year…

You all worry about next year. I'm still trying to figure out how Hass improved his rim finishing so much this year. So much spin and touch now, plus an actual 3 point shot.

His defense and speed were always weapons.
His improvement was wild. He also implemented a nasty eurostep into his game and made the layup off of it almost every time.

.-.
Is expected the same as confirming?
Expected by whom? If it's the OP, it means pretty much nothing. If it's Hurley, that's promising. If it's Hassan, that's very promising.
Even so it leaves wiggle room that the thread title doesn't allow for.

Driving to the hoop was the biggest single improvement area in his game. 22/23, his drives usually looked out of control, and often resulted in an 8 or 10 foot semi-hook shot instead of a layup. Or in a charge call. This season, he seemed so much better at identifying a seam in the D and weaving his way through it to an actual layup, albeit sometimes a highlight reel circus shot layup, but they went in the hole, and that's what counts.

This is why we have to make up new words, since we don't use the words that we have with their generally understood definition.
We won’t know for sure until it’s conpected and exfirmed.
Don’t count your eggs before they’re hatched or put all your chickens all in one basket.

He had a good 3PT shot before uconn, it was just his first year here that he sucked.

His massive outside shooting improvement this year was actually just a small improvement from two years ago.

He said last Wednesday "end of this week", which presumably meant the end of last week.
I see, I guess saw an out of context clip of it early this week.

I thought he looked much bouncier on top of everything you noted.

Diarra’s confidence was through the roof in every big moment. He’s been hitting buzzer beaters at least since he stepped on a college court and we saw that clutch gene grow to another level this season. Really hyped to see how he upgrades his game coming back as a 5th year senior and two-time reigning National Champion.

Also, it’s so dope Hass gets to go to work in the trenches everyday with his brother Mamadou. I imagine they had countless duels in the driveway or gyms nearby and now they’re together in the basketball capitol of the world.

Diarra played almost 20 mpg last season playing behind a first team AA PG, Spencer and a top-5 lottery pick in Castle. And they weren't all garbage minutes. He was playing key minutes in UConn's tightest games and had a regular rotation as first guard off the bench for the first half and the second half.

Diarra is 6'2" and isn't lighting up the NBA draft boards. The kid will play professionally throughout his 20's overseas and make some nice cash if that is what he wants to do.

He's been here two years and has two rings. He was a legit rotation player on this year's team.

With all that UConn lost from the roster, I find it tough to believe his minutes won't go up and be somewhere in the 22-25 mpg range. There are too many unknowns between Ball increasing his minutes, Nowell coming in as a frosh and any transfers. Diarra is the known quantity, the solid bed rock. The way he improved his 3-point shooting, finishing at the rim, and foul shooting means he will get plenty of minutes next season. And that's going to happen whether he starts or comes off the bench.

He has a chance to a 3-time national champion and not too many college kids can say that.

If he wants to be a guaranteed 15 ppg scorer, have the rock in his hands and play 30 mpg for his final season, I don't begrudge him one bit. A chance to be BMOC in your final year of college? Sure. And there are probably 50-75 good basketball schools he can do it. UConn isn't one of them. And no one on UConn's roster is guaranteed those type numbers.

I would urge Hass to look at what happened to Alleyne if he’s considering anything else. Now he’s clearly more valuable with a bigger role and our national attention and media will be worth more than a few extra minutes.

Many outstanding points but I think Alex would be guaranteed those minutes and that role if he were to return. Otherwise I agree with everything else you said.

I think if he leaves its because he just feels done with college. I can't see him going elsewhere.

I did consider that factor and if that's what Diarra is waiting on
i'd be surprised if bringing in Mahaney directly forced Diarra to leave. like you said, Mahaney isnt a PG so i dont see how it would. i hope Diarra would be alright with bringing in a 3rd ball handler.

Can Haas keep up the same defensive intensity for 30 minutes that he did for 20?

I think probably yes but that’s gotta be a real question just from a physical limit and psychological point of view.
