Borges article on candidates

According to Goodman, they have hired the Parker Search Firm.
Search firms blow, all Benedict needs to do is call Hurley talk about the New England weather for ten minutes, then tell him the job is his if he wants it and wish him luck in the NCAA'S. Done deal.

I have not heard another name that excites me. Hurley would have us in the tournament in two years.

.-.
Billy Donovan or Frank Martin would be awesome.

Either would make me so happy. When the transition to Ollie took place, I said Bennett or Martin. Tony’s teams are a bit too boring - but I’ll stand by Martin - he reminds me of Calhoun...in Cuban form. Billy Donovan? If only - that would bring Championships...

....and imagine how Calhoun would feel.....

Then JC needs to come back ASAP, as long as someone else picks the coach in waiting. JC plus Donyell is intriguing.

The state legislature should step in on this garbage.

It's using state money to further the careers of individual employees.

It's white collar crime.

They gave David the Oaf a raise - he can't hire a basketball coach without help?
Off the Benedict bandwagon I see. I don't enough of what they do, background checks? I do know they draw your ire.

Where in the world did the Donyell rumors come from?

He's quitting a head coaching job after the amount of work he did to get one?

I've been off the Benedict bandwagon for a long time. They don't do squadoosh other than waste taxpayer money.

It's time for someone to answer why Ollie goes for cause and the people who made the deal skate.

Go back and look at the press conference when Kevin Stallings was hired at Pitt 2 years ago. First question right out of the gate. High comedy.

I literally did this in another thread. Parker was who got Uconn ad Dave.

The more I look at these lists....the more jc for a few years with a coaching in waiting (Dunleavy is my preferred choice) seems more and more appealing.

I've done this in a dozen threads. Parker also was in on the Auburn AD hire.

You're right. It's insanity. The thing that I don't understand is that it's not actually a good way to further one's career, because you're now making hiring decisions based not on merit, but on who's in good favor with the search firm. Like others noted, this can lead to hiring guys like Diaco. Why not trust your own judgment, make a good hire, and advance by actually being good at your job?

Interesting. Was there a particular thing about Benedict?

I'll get killed for this but Warde and him make me long for Hathaway.

Donyell was in the Borges article. Would he sign up for head coach in waiting? I might.

They’re a big hitter in the athletics fields

Because if you aren't in the good graces of the search firms you don't get recommended and nobody hires anyone who isn't recommended by the search firms.

At the end of the day the idiots running athletic departments know WAY WAY WAY WAY less about sports than we do.

UConn's athletic department which has a billion national championships has been so woefully managed that they have been reduced to firing the basketball coach 'for cause' in an effort to bully him into a lower buy-out.

I wouldn't trust Dave Benedict to get my car home safely from a trip to the carwash. If they somehow don't end up with Hurley - they are going to make a hire so bad you are going to bleed from your eyes.

They are a worthless tax on the process. If our state legislature was worth a damn they would pass a bill that eliminated their use.

Oh Good Lord him as coach in waiting is beyond insane. He finished 8th in the NEC by hiring the relative of their best player who has gotten kicked out of a half dozen programs. To date he has shown zero that would qualify him as coach in waiting.

I don't know if I can point to a single thing that happened but he's completely inept. It's awesome that Edsall hates him already.

Didn’t say I would hire him, but it could prove to be an interesting mix.

Could Brian Dutcher, Mark Few or Greg McDermott be good suitors?

What about to replace herbst? She won’t be here long term
